World of Reel - our favorite site - went off on her today and like I said she's the 12 million dollar Mo'nique without an Oscar....... Martin Stett - when did you start writing for World of Reel Kind of harsh - too harsh - but she ain't quitting anyway so........ Here’s a slice of reality I need to inject into Henson’s narrative. Fact: mention her name to any semi-regular moviegoer, and they, in all likelihood, would not know who she is. Nobody is going to see a movie because her name is on the poster. She isn’t a draw. Don't blame the studios or sexism or racism, instead blame audiences.www.worldofreel.com/blog/2023/12/25/a1zqf1s1kqsixitolcwivtcs4couua

If I was actually working for a gossip rag highly respected news outlet, I'd put more effort into explaining my positions. Ruimy just says "sucks for her" and calls it a day, tells her to stop whining. I suggest that if she really cares about black actors that she put in real effort to show the struggles of other people that haven't "made it." My dirty commie side is showing a bit here - I think that every major player in Hollywood is overpaid, especially with cinema possibly dying as a profitable art form - and I can't care about her millions of dollars worth of problems when most people would never see money like that in their lives. That's why I think she would come off much better if she decided to shine a light on other people, investing that money in exposing the financial double standard that affects so many. I like her as an actress, and she's probably not a bad person. So take that energy and anger and direct it towards doing good.

Everyone knows he's a lying piece of shit and his reputation precedes him.* Does it bother you - because that makes me really way more likely to do it a lot more * He's just giving his opinion, it's not a lie - it's his opinion ..........calm down, it's fine .....

Nope, you'll do whatever you're gonna do, so not really bothered. I just said that to remind people that you knowingly use shitty and unreliable sources like World Of Reel, so it'll further dent any credibility you might have left. So keep on postin'. 4-D chess, son.

"Nope, you'll do whatever you're gonna do" I always do whatever I want - so you can fnck off anytime.... The actual interesting thing here isn't that he feels Henson isn't a star (whatever) but when you look at how Jennifer Coolidge cashed in on White Lotus and Henson fired her entire team for NOT cashing in for her..........that is what really has to hurt.......I said before she's not a better actress than Julianne Nicholson so her 12 million is fine or too much as a talent ...........but compared to Jennifer Coolidge, I bet she's really pissed on not capitalizing on Cookie

So I asked my Boomer mom who she knew..so I'm sure by now, most people know I'm black. Taraji yes Sarah Jessica Parker yes Robin wright no Julia Roberts yes Meg Ryan yes Nicole Kidman yes Emma Stone no Jennifer Lawrence no Kate Winslet no Cate blanchette no Meryl streep yes Sandra Bullock yes I was shocked that she knew lady gaga and of course, she knows Taylor Swift. Edit: didn't know Margo Robbie. This reads right. Henson is a star and a box office draw within the African-American community, so it makes sense your mom would be familiar with her. Kidman, Roberts, Ryan and Bullock have been household names since the 90's, so your mom would be familiar with them. Streep has been a household name since the 80's. Winslet beyond Titanic aimed most of her projects at Oscar voters rather than general audiences, so I can see why your mom might not be familiar with her. Blanchett has never been a household name movie star at the level of Kidman or Roberts, despite the respect her name carries in the industry. Wright isn't a household name at all. Sarah Jessica Parker is the main character in a cultural phenomenon show, so her fame translates across demographics.
Lawrence, Robbie and Stone are probably too young for your mom to pay much attention to as actors

100K for her role in The Color Purple is absolutely insulting, I agree with her. But I also would have thought she was rolling in dough with Empire and Person of Interest. She did alot of episodes.

What's weird is she says she fired her whole team for not cashing in on Cookie (like Coolidge did ^) but she couches it in an I'm not paid enough narratve .......I think people would be more sympathetic if she just said that Cookie thing and we fncked up more ......I mean I'm not gonna lie, I like her, I liked Cookie, but I'm not feeling much sympathy for someone with 12 mil.......
Like how does this end anyway - by some producer giving her 5 million for some part? Maybe....but......doubt it.......maybe she gets an Oscar nod.......maybe she quits (no way).......
But hey - you never know, good luck to her but like I said Haenel at least had an ethical point and is a way bigger deal and a way, way bigger talent........... and I didn't feel sympathy about Haenel actually quitting either .....

She eventually got 150k for it... which still sound ridiculous. I'm sure she got way more than that for TCP.

Henson's got a pretty impressive box office track record at the US box office. 5th no.1 movie as a lead, 3rd no.1 movie as the top billed actor, & 9th no.1 movie overall.

So 5 million, 30% of which goes to your team.... Yeah, I'd retire a rough job like acting over such a ludicrously small amount of pay too. God knows that the amount of pain just isn't worth it. Actually in the interview she said 50% goes into tax (which I suppose is true) and 30% gross would go to the team, so she's saying that of the salary on paper she would only get 20% of it all.
She never said she was getting paid 10 million either, she only used that figure as an example. I doubt she's getting paid anywhere close to that figure. Not even Cate Blanchett's salary estimate is 10 million and that woman is a Hollywood legend. I'm guessing 1 million sounds more realistic for Henson, so technically she would get 200k for a project, and for someone who's been working for such a long time, that is indeed quite awful. And it is possible that she doesn't even get paid 1 million on paper considering that she only got 150k for Benjamin Button.

In the interview she mentions that the studio underpays her because she doesn't "translate overseas", which, while I suppose is true as African Ameircan cinema and films about the American south in general don't do well overseas, should not be an excuse to underpay black actresses when it is a fact that African Americans are particularly loyal and almost always show up in cinema to support African American films. The Little Mermaid is a good example of a box office bomb outside the US, but a (moderate) hit domestically. Hidden Figures also made more than 70% of its box office in the US.

Kinda puts Henson's gripes into prespective. Doesn't change my complaint, though. She's getting - let's lowball this - 175k per movie, I think 8 movies (live action) in the past 5 years, with 3 voice roles.... remove half from that. She's getting roughly 300k a year? Even with having to make appearances on crappy talk shows to advertise stuff, that's a respectable wage. I'd suck you off for that, Pup. Heck, keep me on retainer for that money. It is beginning to get down to the realm of us normal people that don't live in the clouds.

Yeah, I get that she's better off than most of us in terms of her wage, but I still do think you have to judge how fairly she's being paid relative to her job, status and peers of similar status. She's being vastly underpaid, and that is still unfair, even if her salary is still crazy money to most of us. We don't know the lifestyle she has to maintain to present as a "star". Much of that 300k a year may be spent on clothes, make-up artists and stylists, just for her to look presentable at every public appearance. After all her expenses, she may be no better off than if she was working a pretty good middle class office job.
