Yeah, that's about what I expected. Same. I figured everyone would agree it was a big swing, but not everyone would be on his wavelength. And really, that's pretty much Coppola's M.O.

I really hope Plemons gets nominated for this. I love him but his first nomination was for such a nothing role. He needs a redeemer.

I think they'd have to fraud him supporting to have a shot at that. Would love to see it though. Oh I’m assuming he’s going supporting From what I hear, it would be a hard push to go supporting for him because he drives two of the three segments and has a large role in the third. I mean, we live in an era where Mahershala Ali, Brad Pitt and Daniel Kaluuya won Supporting Actor Oscars for undeniably leading performances, so it's possible. With that said, I do think we have to keep an eye on Plemons as a potential player for the Cannes Best Actor prize. Everyone keeps assuming Screenplay but Plemons got extremely good notices, and this is a jury that I feel is predisposed to like Plemons (including a very recent costar).

A nifty little bit of trivia: three filmmakers are in line to potentially be 2/3 for the trifecta of top festival prizes.
If Kinds of Kindness wins the Palme, Yorgos Lanthimos will only need the Golden Bear (Berlin).
If Caught by the Tides wins the Palme, Jia Zhangke will also only need the Golden Bear.
If The Seed of the Sacred Fig wins the Palme, Mohammad Rasoulof will only need the Golden Lion (Venice).

There were already rumours that the Rasoulof was a masterpiece, so yeah, Neon may very well be going 5 in a row.
