Not performance necessarily - but who had the "best" overall year for you? Sandra Hüller? Maybe Jeffrey Wright? Who else?
I'm going to go with Emma Stone who is delivering an all-timer year across mediums and is unbelievably great in two wildly disparate roles - TV's The Curse and Poor Things ........

Emma Stone takes the year, cookout style - The Curse, Poor Things, and little additions: Bleat (U.S premiere - a small Huppert esque perf) and SNL joining the rarefied five timers club!
Runner-up, Nic Cage - Dream Scenario, Sympathy for the Devil, Renfield, two Westerns. Latter few are iffy but still a lot of work across type.
Others doing their thang...
Robert De Niro - Killers of the Flower Moon, About My Father, Nada. One pretty great perf and two fun ones.
Helen Mirren - on paper impressive… three blockbusters, a Western series lead, Golda Meir.
Ayo Edebiri - popped up a lot… she’s in 15 different projects (The Bear, Bottoms, Black Mirror etc)

Alden Ehrenreich deserves a shout out. Don’t think he had the best overall year compared to some of the other names listed, but he had a great rebound from “movie jail” with Cocaine Bear, Fair Play, and Oppenheimer.

Emma Stone takes it for me.
However two other strong shoutouts:
Jason Schwartzman had a hell of a 2023. Asteroid City, The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Quiz Lady. Voiceover work in Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Ten Year Old Tom, Fargo S5, Digman! and an appearance in I think You Should Leave.
Jacob Elordi: Saltburn, Priscilla, The Sweet East, He Went That Way
