The Alma Pöysti nomination is so surprising and cool.
Not a great day for The Holdovers. TERRIBLE day for The Color Purple.

No Sessa, but then again horrible category fraud to put him in supporting.

Solid noms but it's hard to mess up when you have 6 nominees in each category and break it down by Drama/Comedy.

The Zone of Interest low-key had a great showing here. Score (for a very minimalist one at that!), International Feature (expected but still) and Picture is a very nice haul indeed.

I still have Payne in 4th or 5th for Director. Th academy loves him (so did the globes but they just had a huge change in voting body).
Still kind of think Gerwig hits everywhere and gets snubbed for probably Glazer. (Maybe Song?)

The Color Purple missed Comedy/Musical. Wow. tbh this category has been exceptionally strong this year and they weren't gonna skip Air.

The Zone of Interest looks in good shape for a non English film. Ditto for Anatomy. I am keeping them both in my top ten predictions.

Nice to see my predicted resurgance of Matt Damon and Air happened with these Golden Globe nominations.
Still think Damon is a dark horse for an Oscar nod, in lead for Air or supporting for Oppenheimer (even though he hasn't really showed up anywhere as of yet for the latter). But right now, if I had to, I'd bet on him ousting one of the more favored lead actor contenders for Air.
Oct 22, 2023 13:47:48 GMT pupdurcs said: I'm on a Matt Damon kick right now, and I think Air is very much the kind of movie that can come back in the conversation in a very big way (people have stopped talking about it as much since all the festival films came out, but for some reason, I think it'll have a resurgence with the industry awards). The movie is AMPAS catnip.
I feel Damon is in a good position to be rewarded with for a strong year, either with a supporting nomination for Oppenheimer, or a Best Actor nod for Air. So he's a factor in both the male actor races this year, as far as nominations go.
