Four episodes in right now, and I can confidently say that this show was written just for me. Brutal, dangerous, ugly. Politics and chains of command, the logistics of rebellion and the straws that bundle up into a backbreaking burden until revolution. Most fantasy is Lord of the Rings, and that's fine... but shows like Andor and Arcane are stories of fomenting hatred on grand scales - cracks forming in a dam before a flood of bloodshed. Stories like these are why I love fantasy.
And dang, what a cast of actors I am mostly unfamiliar with! Just goes to show what you can do with people that aren't "movie stars" if you give them room to breathe.

I loved it. Espionage in Star Wars? Sign me the fuck up!
Plus Filoni and Kennedy seemed to have let Gilroy do his thing.

The Prison Arc was one of the best things I think Star Wars has done since the Original Trilogy. Great seeing what can be done without Filoni inserting his cartoon characters at any chance he can get

It's so much better than all the other Star Wars things it is crazy. Like, they clearly tried to replicate the aesthetic with Ahsoka, but that is about all they replicated.

Now that I've finished it, I am... kind of in love. The DIALOGUE in this show, man. They speak with subtext, and it's soooo good. Any conversation with Cyril and his mother or anything Mon Mothma is involved in - study how the dialogue tells you what the relationships these characters have. It's masterful. The rise-fall-rise-fall structure of the narrative utilizes the long-form television format to its fullest potential. EVERY CHARACTER IS COMPETENT AND PROFESSIONAL - even the screw-ups like Cyril or Cassian act in ways that *make sense* and are perfectly logical. AND WHAT A CAST. Kyle Soller, Kathryn Hunter, Anton Lesser, GENEVIEVE O'REILLY , Andy Serkis, Elizabeth Dulau, Stellan Skarsgard, Alex Ferns, Fiona Shaw - most of these are actors I'm unfamiliar with and they absolutely NAIL their performances. With quality, multi-dimensional writing, you can get so much out of actors that are probably drooling over chances to play people like these. There are small issues - not too big on a couple of the action scenes and there are some silly plot contrivances to get Cassian from place to place at the start of each arc - but the quality of the character writing makes these small complaints in the long run. It makes a great companion piece to Arcane - you know, the other American TV show from the past 30 years that is worth watching - in that they are both intelligent depictions of rebel uprisings that look at the human cost of warfare and the impact of political awareness, with rounded characters on all sides acting like real humans. Please don't let any Disney execs near season two. I'm scared.
