She's a good actress, and increasingly acclaimed, and has been the lead of some hits. Is that enough? Thoughts?

Sure. If the likes of Natalie Portman and Margo Robbie are considered movie stars, then Stone is one as well.
Like most current movie stars, their ability to put butts in seats is very project dependant

Yup, above post is right. It's not the same era anymore. The 2000s was the last time movie stars existed, the shadows of Sandra Bullock, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, and Julia Roberts were still looming. The 90s was considered the movies rebirth decade after a down 80s in the mainstream. J-Law is still the main young movie star on the planet, but she doesn't touch those 90s girls. But nowadays you can't look at box office numbers anymore. It's more about how much people name you as a favorite actress or something, and for that aspect.... I think she overtakes Emma Stone. I dunno about Emma Watson, Margot Robbie or Zendaya, but my guess is one of them needs more movies to come out before being established enough, and the other two are seen or starting to be seen for one movie/franchise. (Barbie and Harry Potter)

She is an immediately recognizable A-list Oscar-winning actress who's won a slew of awards, she's headlined films that have been high grossers (several of them original and eclectic properties), and she's exploring other media in television and the stage to great acclaim. She is absolutely a movie star.
It remains to be seen how Poor Things will do at the box office but if a sexually explicit Yorgos Lanthimos movie does well, it will be entirely off the back of Emma Stone (no pun intended). She is the center of all the advertising and word of mouth, whereas The Favourite was very much a three-hander in regards to the promotion.

If we're talking movie stars as in someone who can "open a movie" then there aren't any movie stars anymore besides Leo and Tom Cruise. If we just mean movie star as "a famous person who is on movies" then sure.

The time to ask this question was back in 2010 when Easy A came out. She's obviously a movie star.

I dunno man, you must not read my posts because I said in another thread that when people write a Power Pop song about you - you are sexy and sexy is a long way towards being a star and this song is from ~ 10 years ago ffs......also having 2 Oscars at 35 helps (she's the favorite, no?) and being in a fairly great-ish TV show right now............also being 1/2 of the best and hardest to read actor-director combo team atm also helps.....she's not "a star" she's THE star (of my dreams I mean).........pfffft

By today's standards, absolutely. And I'll even say that if she was around in what we deem the last era of movie stars (in the Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks sense), she would have been even bigger. She has the star charisma people ate up back then.
