I'm starting to come around to it. I don't want Episode IX to be dramatically altered if the story had already been worked extensively on to not include General Leia. I was most open to them using previously shot footage peppered into XI just to have one last hoorah with Fisher, but it's not gonna happen.
I think whoever it is needs to be of the same age range and same racial ethnicity so that the continuity still feels the same. I want it to feel like a natural recasting, but I also feel like it needs to be someone with a presence.
Meryl Streep has been thrown around, same with Helen Mirren (although she'll have to alter her accent), Sally Field, Jessica Lange, Sissy Spacek, Dianne Wiest, Sigourney Weaver, but I feel that Glenn Close would be closest to recapturing the same performance and presence given by Fisher. I'd love more suggestions though. It's so tough because no one feels like they SHOULD replace Fisher, but to respect the character, it's important that they do, and I imagine it's what Fisher would have preferred.
