RIP A little side note about his Chinatown character: I always felt that his character is in a lot of ways the character you can read the movie through and its my favorite movie, so......: You only see him twice (iirc?) - once as someone who hires Jake Gittes and once as someone who helps him - in actuality, unwittingly - someone who enables the ultimately tragic ending .......his character Curly is oblivious to his wife cheating on him (he beats her for it btw) and utterly oblivious to the evil around him (Huston's) .........and what goes into him living his daily life. The very end of Chinatown with its true "last line" ...... "Get off the street!" is about guys like Curly as much as the citizens of Chinatown who are pushed to the screens margins when you hear that said.......those small characters are a part of that bigger story too........

For anyone who grew up on the Rocky movies this man is an icon ("His lungs he's gonna punch out") but you throw his all too brief appearances in Chinatown and Once Upon a Time in America plus that incredible episode of The Sopranos on top of it (add Pope of Greenwich Village, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Win Win, even Transamerica to the pile) and for a good 40 years there he was as good a character actor as there was around. Thanks for the memories you goddamn legend.

Charlie: Mister. I am the Pope, this might be your church, right now I'm the Pope of Greenwich Village 'cause I got the tape alright?
Bedbug Eddie: I like you have balls. I don't get too mad at that.
