Mostly love 'em........the only thing I could maybe say bad about them is they were so good at what they did (and with a kind of stage fright iirc) that they became studio slaves and not a real pulsating "typical" Rock band .......but they wrote a lot of great songs in the studio - and that just makes them odd because unlike most UK bands - they are not really "linked" to a scene but stand out from any ....... in the 70s/80s/90s so that's quite a run ......this song will always be my favorite - so good as social commentary Ray Davies could have written it tbh: Blur specfically ripped them off as much as Oasis did The Beatles - and they got away with it which is ridiculous ......almost all their singles are exceptional - and that's a lot of singles - and they have this fascinating - complex - weird instrumentation component.......I mean these drums here sound like canons......they are exceptionally clever with all facets of record making like that in what you hear and when you hear it.....backing vocals in XTC songs are often more interesting than most bands whole songs

Skylarking is really the only of their albums I fully like. That mini suite towards the middle is fantastic and then of course there's Dear God. Other than that I like scattered songs, sometimes singles, sometimes not.
