Oh actually, maybe The Colour Purple instead of All of Us Strangers. You must have The Colour Purple pretty high on your BP predictions because I think the last musical to be nominated in adapted is Chicago.

Best Original Screenplay: Barbie (they really are trying to use The LEGO Movie as precedent and it's an easier category) The Holdovers Maestro Past Lives Saltburn ALT: Anatomy of a Fall
Best Adapted Screenplay: The Color Purple Killers of the Flower Moon Oppenheimer Poor Things The Zone of Interest (ALT: All of Us Strangers)

It's good to know the WGA has discovered that Barbie is simply depicting historical events.

I mean, congrats on your Oscars Greta and Noah. Are you sure about that? The Holdovers could very well win BOS, especially if it wins the PGA or WGA.

No such thing as a lock in September. I would predict Barbie to win here at the moment, unless The Holdovers suddenly becomes the BP frontrunner or Past Lives resurges majorly.

I have a very distinct feeling Barbie's gonna get swapped over at the last second for the Oscars and put back in Adapted, the way Moonlight and Whiplash were. And I feel like Adapted is going to be a brutal bloodbath between Poor Things and Oppenheimer.

so I know Oppenheimer is supposed to be an awards juggernaut but is the script any better than Nolan's other efforts? Because he's never been that effective a writer (especially with his dialogue which always sounds unnatural and functional) and his screenplays have always been an awards weak spot for him.
haven't seen it yet but I'm predicting it because everyone else is lol and because it was such a big critical and commercial success, but a huge part of me is still skeptical...

Nolan actually has more Screenplay nominations ( Memento, Inception) than Director nods ( Dunkirk) and yes, Oppenheimer is an especially good script and it being a movie that is mostly guys in rooms talking it stands to reason that if it's a juggernaut then the screenplay will absolutely be in the hunt.

Original Screenplay Barbie The Holdovers Past Lives Anatomy of a Fall Maestro Adapted Screenplay Killers of the Flower Moon Poor Things Oppenheimer All of Us Strangers The Zone of Interest Think I’m putting American Fiction in place of Zone of Interest in Adapted following the TIFF win. Was kind of eying it anyways.
