I say this all the time - these questions are how you can tell who you think is the best or favorite actor for you: Who did it first? Who did it best at their best? and......who did great work the most?Huppert and Pacino are my answers to 2 of those questions if forced to say.........I could list 30 great perforances for each .........30........ PacinoThe Godfather, Part 2 Dog Day Afternoon Angels in America The Godfather The Local Stigmatic - I think it's genius - fuck the accent - sorry not sorry.......if you know, then you know....and if you don't you talk about John Q and shit....... Huppert

1 To Die For 2 Destroyer 3 The Northman 4 Dogville 5 Being The Ricardos

I love that you have Tragedy of Macbeth so high; I've said it before, but I am much more a fan of "lion in winter" Denzel than in his leading man prime, and I think that there's an ambition in him now that I think is exemplified by his performance there. He wants the auteurs now, he wants to maintain his dominance, and it really makes me intrigued to see what the next decade will bring. If his nascent projects with PTA, Cuaron, and McQueen become reality, it'd be a hell of a coup, especially if they become big above-the-line contenders outside of him. Can't say I agree with Being the Ricardos being on anyone's top five, though. That's never gonna sit right with me.

Can't say I agree with Being the Ricardos being on anyone's top five, though. That's never gonna sit right with me. Well, I did say my favorite performances constantly changes for both of them. Maybe it's a cheat . This isn't a best performance list for me, though some may correlate. If it was a best performance list, Malcolm X is no.1 for me. But right now, these are the performances of his I get the most enjoyment out of watching. The Tragedy Of Macbeth is one of his top 10 best performances, but it's probably at the top of my most favorite list right now for him due to recency bias: I mean ask me in 2 months time, my 5 current favorite list for him might look like this, as I may have rewatched and enjoyed them more recently: 1 Training Day2 Philidelpia3 Glory4 The Hurricane5 Inside ManAgain, taking note that it's a current favorite (not best) list, I kinda love what she did with Lucille Ball in Being The Ricardos against all the odds. I've rarely seen a casting so villified and hammered. Maybe Michael Keaton got something like that for Batman 89, but that was in the pre-internet era, so he could probably block it out to an extent. Kidman, under immense scrutiny and pressure had to deliver a performance that could get most of the vultures off her back, and she did. The feeding frenzy to decide she was going to fail spectacularly in the role before she even shot it was something hubristic. So for her to show exactly why she's one of the world's greatest actresses by giving a nuanced, acclaimed performance that won her a Golden Globe and got her an Oscar nomination was gratifying to see. People can still choose to dislike her performance and that's fine, but there's no question that she also shut a lot of people up spectacularly with the acclaim she received for it. It probably wouldn't make my top 5 Best Nicole Kidman performances (top 10 or 15 best? Certainly), but it's in my top 5 current favorite performances of hers for those reasons and recency bias.

pupdurcs Denzel in The Tragedy Of Macbeth >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Will Smith in King Richard...just saying I mean, that goes without saying . But y'know, Smith had an overdue/career narrative and it was still very solid work. Still, it's incredibly difficult to win for a Shakespeare performance (even getting nominated for one is pretty rare) though his Macbeth would have been one of the best actor winners in recent memory. The nomination was the victory. Maybe he'll do King Lear on film and win for that.
