I imagine there will be tons actually, so go with the first ones that jump....
Love the sound of this (can't say it's precisely it's "music" even; it might be the instruments more than the melody itself...no I think that's good too)... gets under my skin enough to wish it was about something more... personal and deep and ambiguous than a playboy's regrets. Not that it's not those things at all; he's just written better things...

I have a lot of these - lyrics matter A LOT to me - I don't play an instrument.....I was told to get the ladies you had to be a critic .......what a big mistake * Led Zeppelin's Rock and Roll starts with the GOAT into - each instrument comes in drums, bass, guitar: distinct, sharp, wildly exciting - later a rollicking piano too - then that asshat starts screeching lyrics that a 12 year old with mental deficiencies wrote - they could never write songs, getit?.......keep the exact same music - kick out the screeching banshee ball buster and write different lyrics ffs * A lot of Goth is like this for me......in fact I'll post an example tomorrow in a post on Goth in my daily music post - someone remind me to do that, because I will be wallowing in despair........ it will be the blackest post of all time.......none more black and unsmiling..... * Also, this song is one of the great synth pop songs almost in spite of itself - and there aren't a lot of great synth pop songs anyway - one of the songs that makes sense in that genre where its artificialty seems deeply sadder and child-like and the lyrics are the same - almost an afterthought .......if Bowie did this it - and he easily could have.....MAR would loooooooooooooooooooved this - oh that's true, it's damn true

Most of the stuff I listen to tbh since lyrics don’t really matter to me much. When I listen to music, I only really care about the, um, music... I’ve said this before in a thread I once made on the topic, but if I want poetry... I’ll read poetry thanks. Like I love The Beach Boys, but not because of their lyrics, which can often be hokey. Red Hot Chili Peppers have sometimes nonsensical lyrics, but Kiedis’s delivery is often what makes it. Nine Inch Nails is one of my favs, but I admit Trent Reznor’s lyrics can sometimes sound like an angsty depressed teenager wrote them. For me, it’s always been much more about the how than the what.

Atmosphere is the primary appeal in the vast majority of my music-listening but if the lyrics are particularly silly or annoying or repetitive it can significantly diminish that appeal yeah. And honestly with some music I prefer not to understand the lyrics. Bon Iver's self-titled album for example, which uses vague poetic ramblings and half-statements to anchor its indie folk stylings, or some of Swans' stuff which does something similar but for prog and alt metal. Hell, even non-English music where you can focus on the musicality of the language without knowing the translation.
But it always depends on the type of music and what it's trying to do. Lyrics matter when they matter and don't when they don't. They can make or break a pop song but change the lyrics in most of Bon Iver's self-titled album tracks and it wouldn't make a lick of difference because they're barely lyrics at all, just part of the vibes. And Michael Gira's voice growling about "Oxygen" in the titular Swans song might as well be just another instrument in the song's chaotic musical soundscape. According to the geniuses on Genius, the song's about asthma. Maybe lol, but at a certain point it really doesn't matter.

Well, my favorite genre is Black Metal, which is all about atmosphere. The lyrics aren't very important to me and sometimes aren't even decipherable. But, most of the times, with most black metal bands, singing (and thus lyrics) don't take up much of the track anyway.

I also listen to songs more for the music than lyrics, but I agree with The Beach Boys here. Great songs musically on their early stuff like Surfer Girl, California Girls, an I Get Around get wasted on songs about nothing. I might be in the minority here but Asher's romantic lyrics on Pet Sounds are pretty corny for the most part, and then Parks was writing gibberish on Smile. It's a shame because when Brian actually did write lyrics like In My Room and Til' I Die it hit way harder than what any of these other guys were doing for them. For a couple one off choices- Hot Potatoes by The Kinks Communist Daughter by Neutral Milk Hotel Way to waste a couple great melodies on a song about potatoes and a song where the refrain is "semen stains the mountaintops"

Any song with Hope Sandoval's voice. She could be singing the phone book over a slide guitar and it's creates the most mesmerizing atmosphere ever. And I'm someone who is big on lyrical songs.
