Universal plans to celebrates the 10th anniversary of the filmed adaptation of the play Mamma Mia! with a follow-up, titled Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, which will open on July 20, 2018. The original cast of the 2008 film is expected to return.
Ol Parker, writer of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, will write and direct the sequel. Joining him are the original film’s producers Judy Craymer and Goetzman. Craymer not only worked on the original film, but created and produced the hit Broadway play. Also returning are lyrical and music supervisors Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeu, acting as executive producers as well.
Mamma Mia! is known for featuring many songs by the famous band ABBA and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! will continue that by featuring ABBA songs not used in the original as well as some returning classics.
The original film starred Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters, Dominic Cooper and Christine Baranski.
