The man wants to enjoy the good life in France, he says, drinking wine and having adventures.
Your time starts now to get this man his Oscar, Hollywood.

Well he better win that Oscar quick or else he's just another "Oh, he almost won the Triple Crown" guys On one hand actors retiring is absolutely stupid to me - and that goes for all of them .......on the other hand he's had a fine run and I'm glad I got to see him in Network on Broadway ....... he was pretty fantastic indeed

On one hand actors retiring is absolutely stupid to me - and that goes for all of them Definitely can't agree with this. If an actor wants to work until their body and mind fail them, obviously they can do what they want, but it's still a job and if Cranston wants to bow out while he's still able to enjoy retirement in an active capacity, then good. The man's legacy is consecrated. More actors should know when to fold 'em and live their life as they choose, especially if they don't feel the quality of the roles or projects befit them. But whatever.

Yeah we have discussed this before on MAR - to me it's an Art not "quite" job - when you're an actor at his level anyway ....a plumber is a fucking job not a guy who could stage a version of The Tempest any time he wants to.....guess he doesn't want to......shrug I just find it silly when actors "announce" it, and to do it 3 years in advance is particularly annoying, but sure - all the best.......thanks for the heads up Bryan

Announcing your retirement several years in advance just seems like grandstanding when you're a popular artist. And in art, unlike some other jobs, you can be welcomed back to stage The Tempest or a raunchy nursing home sex comedy (mmmhhhhmmm, open those legs wide, Dame Maggie Smith... ) at the same level at any time if you ever get tired of smoking cigars on the patio or whatever old people (ugh) do in their now endless spare time. (My dad plays jigsaw puzzles on his phone and my mother spends all day, every day on Facebook. If I ever reach that level, put me out of my misery.) If he wishes to leave the business, all power to him. But my first thought on seeing the OP headline was "why the hell are you announcing it like a presidential campaign bid?" When you feel that you don't wish to work anymore or you feel good roles have stopped coming, then you stop. I don't see the need to set a hard date unless you actually hate the job and this is your way of setting a clear deadline for yourself to get out before it eats more of your life.

It's interesting that Cranston has mostly been doing lesser projects(film wise), however almost always as the lead, which one has to assume is a purposeful choice. I do wonder if he would've had better films under his belt post-Breaking Bad, if he had allowed himself to return to being a character actor.

So does this mean whatever film or show of his that releases in 2026 is the last performance no matter what or does it mean that he’ll be filming or performing in things until 2026, with the possibility that some projects will release in 2027 or later?
Artists should be able to retire if they please but like others have said, to announce it so far in advance feels a bit silly. Does he already have the project that he knows he wants to go out with? What if some unforeseen event (like an industry strike for example) prevents them from working on that by 2026. Will he give up the role? Either way, I’ll be sorry to see him go.

Just like all the other actors who "retire" I'd imagine.
2027 will have like 6 Cranston projects in the works.

Well, if he is indeed retiring than well deserved. He's had a great career. Doing this for his family.

Three years in advance? Edit: Right, he just wants a vacation. Okay, that makes sense.

Lol, he regretted it right after he hit the “send” button. I don’t know why anyone announces retirements anymore (including athletes), like we all know it’s a hoax at this point, so I guess it’s for the extra five minutes of attention? I’m all for retiring but make it a quiet exit and then when you come back every few years, it won’t make anyone raise their eyebrows at the “news” of their return. I figured Cranston would’ve fallen into that camp, but I guess not
