Inspired by this video. I feel like it's not very easy to name them.

challenge accepted
challenge unaccepted because I got to like 40 states before accidentally closing out the page. Not worth it.
for my own state, I know it's set all over Appalachia but I'm claiming Silence of the Lambs for VA because I live 15 minutes from Quantico and that's where the movie kicks off.

Well, Hannibal is imprisoned in Baltimore so I'm claiming The Silence of the Lambs for MD.

I thought of a couple...
Minnesota - The New Land (which funnily enough isn't an American film lol) North Carolina - The Best Years of Our Lives (I think it's set in NC?) Texas - Hud or No Country for Old Men California - There are so many but I'm going with Double Indemnity Hawaii - From Here to Eternity

For my home state, the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania: Dawn of the Dead. But the best scene set in PA is the Philip Jeffries bit in Fire Walk with Me.
Don’t feel like going through all, but a few more:
Illinois: Halloween North Carolina: Blue Velvet Texas: Texas Chainsaw Massacre California: Mulholland Dr. New York: Buffalo ‘66 Colorado: The Shining Ohio: Gummo Maryland: Pink Flamingos

Is Blue Velvet actually set in NC? I know it was filmed there, but it seems like it was meant to be Anywhere, USA...
In any case, my choice is Bull Durham!

Is Blue Velvet actually set in NC? I know it was filmed there, but it seems like it was meant to be Anywhere, USA... Considering Lumberton is a real NC city and they use the name several times in the film, plus the fact that they shot it an hour or so away in Wilmington, I think it's pretty safe to assume that it's set in the real-life city. It's meant to evoke Anywhere, U.S.A. for sure, but I think Lynch could've just made up a name if he wanted to capture an anonymous town.

I dunno but Blow Out is the best movie set in Pennsylvania - or at least the most subversive. I have a lot of family that lives in Philly - everyone there apparently is my cousin......and everything in the city is flipped on its head in that movie: The Reading Terminal Market is sinister and scary while seeming active and alive, the idyllic park is ominous and foreboding (that owl!), the landmarks of liberty and American independence really just cover things up, the entire city is depicted as being oblivious - things that keep people apart while seeming communal (malls, 30th Street Station, or lastly celebrations that are ironic -or mindless shoppers metaphors - cars going through Wanamaker's window etc)....and even more construction and artifice being built all around the clueless citizens figures in the plot It's one of the best "American" and damning of America movies ever made, it's a perfect example of how you use setting - it's as Philly as Taxi Driver is NYC but in a less obvious way.....
