Hey folks!
I'd love to get some eyes on my new short film -- I threw a couple grand into this one and I'm really proud of how it turned out. Enjoy!

Quite lovely Fine use of subject matter and form - silent for a good bit of its runtime with a visual style and pretty risky choices too - the fadeout to white (matches the opening of light) and the movement of the camera to the right to show us what he sees Why is it not in English? Not that I'm complaining it worked, just curious .....obviously a deeply personal film for you ..... In all your films a sense of intelligence comes through - regardless of subject matter or genre.......you really get the sense that you're always shooting fully fomed ideas that have been thought about and worked over .......not just 1st drafts etc Really enjoy seeing these and also when other people do creative things on MAR also - makes it much more of a community of ideas

Really appreciate the kind words and I'm honoured to have made a good impression as I've always respected your taste. It's French for a few different reasons. The main thing was that I wanted to maintain a "silent film" quality as you described, without literally having no dialogue, and one way for me to do that was to make the dialogue a language I don't speak. I also find French to have a calmness and a warmth to it that fit the mood of this film better than English. It also kinda served as a safety blanket as I knew I'd be casting volunteer actors I'd never met, and the foreign language would mask any poor line deliveries in the event that I can't get a strong cast haha (they ended up all being great, thankfully -- especially the wordless old man who was the only person to submit for the role, so I was very lucky). Plus I honestly thought it might help the film get into festivals if they thought it was a French Canadian arthouse film. Didn't work but no regrets, I'm proud of it! Thanks again man, you rock!
