“Memory” is the rare Michel Franco movie that isn’t downright unpleasant. Given the hard-on juries have for him, this one is in the running for an award as well.

We got any prevailing winds in any direction on the Lido for prizes yet?

We got any prevailing winds in any direction on the Lido for prizes yet? Rumor has it that “Green Border” is the movie the jury is talking about the most.

I feel Maestro will get something if only because Chazelle loves music-based things.

Potential spoiler: PriscillaI was thinking about this, too. Jane Campion and Sofia Coppola are really close. I'm wondering if she'll work to persuade the other jurors to award the film somewhere.

I'm hearing some Caleb Landry Jones buzz -- Wil, you think there's anything to substantiate that?

I'm hearing some Caleb Landry Jones buzz -- Wil, you think there's anything to substantiate that? I confess I’d be very surprised, though it wouldn’t be undeserved as he’s the only saving grace of that movie.

Apparently Coppola is still at the Lido, though it’s not clear whether she was called back or she never left.

An Italian journalist mentioned these six movies as the the ones with the biggest awards chances: Green Border Poor Things Evil Does Not Exist Io Capitano El Conde Memory Hmmmm... Chastain for the Volpi? It’s quite possible, though I thought Sarsgaard was the better one of the two. If those are the movies, I’d say Larrain gets Screenplay (McDonagh and Mitre must have loved that script) while Hamaguchi gets Director (I can see Jane as his main sponsor).

Apparently Mikkelsen and Sarsgaard are the frontrunners for Best Actor.

A few red carpet spottings: Hamaguchi, Franco and Sarsgaard. Larrain too.

If I had to guess the winners based on the red carpet, I’d say Lanthimos won the Lion, Garrone won the Grand Jury Prize, Hamaguchi won Director and Holland won the Special Jury Prize.
