I listened to his interview with Chris Hardwick circa Joker a couple years ago, and he was surprisingly pleasant, but I noticed he just doesn't enunciate nearly as clearly as he used to. He always talked in a haphazard manner, but it's gotten more pronounced in the 2010s and 2020s. I'm wondering if he's even capable of the technicality of his Gladiator and Walk the Line performances at this point.

Being the excellent actor he is I'm sure he can enunciate clearly if he wants to for a role.

I was just listening to the recent A24 podcast with Wock and Ari Aster, and his slurring/mumbling was really annoying. I don't think I could cast him in a movie if he didn't show he could turn that off. I don't get it. He didn't always sound like that. |

He's just exhausted by living in a society all this time but never being allowed to acknowledge it out loud on screen.

I listened to him on the ReelBlend podcast for Napoleon, and he was pretty endearing personality-wise as usual, but man his speaking is a problem. I can see directors having a zoom call with him and peaceing out because of a lack of technical malleability on his end.
