This looks good (or at least fun) apart from that awful trailer song.

Watched s1 e1 only so far.......yeah......it's brilliant Yeun is superb here - this guy curses at a level reserved for DePac / Oldman / Keitel....the scene where he tries to eat himself to death (fast food, like his get rich fast schemes - get it?) is heartbreaking in a pathetic way.......the scene where he mocks the street name of his rival is a classic of goofiness and ominous "wait, is this guy going to snap?" Love it so far .......and I couldn't give af about TV in general either........

For you Emmy nerds - “Beef” has raised the stakes.
Variety has learned exclusively that Netflix and the creative teams behind the new dark comic series have chosen to seek Emmy Awards consideration as a limited or anthology series instead of a comedy, where many pundits had assumed it would campaign.
Starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, the series dropped on the streaming platform on April 6, garnering positive reviews from critics and audiences. Currently, the show sits at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 92% from audiences.variety.com/2023/awards/awards/beef-netflix-limited-anthology-emmys-submission-steven-yeun-ali-wong-1235576310/

Better chances for Yeun to win now. Just him v Peters, instead of having to go against Sudekis and Hader in their final seasons+White.

Has (finally!) hit #1 on Netflix.......I would watch Ali Wong too for awards love - I was less impressed with her storyline - this is Yeun's party - but I could see her winning that dumpster fire of Limited Series lead that everyone gave to Chastain because of SAG........actually I could see it sweeping ........but only if they gave me a vote

Finally finished this and yeah, it’s pretty great. Got pretty dark and crazy towards the end but mostly all worked. Yuen definitely MVP but plenty of solid performances throughout.

I finished this last night. I really enjoyed it. Both Wong and Yeun are equally good. Their acting was natural and flowed so well. The ensemble all around was great, and they deserve a SAG nomination at least. Honorable mention to Ashley Park, who’s also the best actor on Emily in Paris My only gripe is the last two episodes just went unhinged and unrealistic especially the crow thing. I didn’t like that. I think there could’ve been a more grounded way for Amy and Danny to connect and go through existential crisis together without it becoming like an action/survivor movie I love that the diverse cast in this series is authentic and not pandering or filling quotas for the sake it. I hope this trend continues and opens doors for other creatives. This is a groundbreaking series

Just now getting around to this and am about halfway through it. I love how a lot of the show’s funniest bits are small throwaway moments or little details – like the fact that Danny only has 3 stars on Yelp even before Amy review-bombs him, the comments section on the Nextdoor post, or when Amy and Paul are hiding from Danny in the car while Danny is throwing his trash away and has a little tantrum in the background because he misses the dumpster.

Finished this last night... mostly very good. The last two episodes are delightfully bonkers, though I don’t think episode 8 sets it all up very well. I found the flashbacks to be clunky, and the writing gets kind of lazy in the way that things happen because the plot requires that certain events take place and not because they make sense for the character in the moment. Eps 9 and 10 are satisfying enough though that it’s not a show-ruining misstep.

I personally feel like all Beef seasons should pit the most contentious rivals for the Oscars the previous year. So Lily Gladstone/Emma Stone and Paul Giamatti/Cillian Murphy for Season 3 (with Bradley Cooper guest-starring only to die like Maria Bello did).

I saw this and was thinking about posting, but thanks for doing it when you saw it It's really incredible how movie stars ( or would-be movie stars) just jump into TV without any sort of pushback. Glen Powell can do a sitcom now, while his movie career is as hot as it's ever been. Melton has movie momentum from May/December and is actually getting cast in upcoming movies, but it's still seen as a no-brainer for him to go back to TV ( he came from teen CW schlockfest Riverdale) if it's got enough prestige. Great reunion for Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway after Love & Other Drugs and Brokeback Mountain. They must really enjoy working with each other.
