I've seen her now in You (TV), The Fallout, Scream (2022), X, and Wednesday (TV), and I think she's the most exciting young actress on the scene since Pugh first broke out. (Zendaya is a revelation in Euphoria, but so far only in Euphoria). Ortega's just weirdly very good in everything, like Seymour Hoffman or something. Has anyone else been impressed?

She’s been pretty good to great in everything I’ve seen her in and she definitely has that “it” factor.

Need her and Aubrey Plaza in something together asap American remake of Blue is the Warmest Colour. Those are the 2 you want? I could think of better choices I'd like to see in that form. India Eisley for example. not that I havent seen some fine skin from her.

I've only seen her in You and parts of Wednesday, but I'm impressed. I thought she was really good in You. I think she's got a good career ahead of her. It seems like she's built up an impressive resume so far, and she's only 20 iirc. That's crazy

I genuinely don't get it. She had one decent scene for a quarter of an episode in all of two seasons, and people are talking about her like she's the best of her generation and gave an Oscar worthy performance. She still does her shitty Disney Channel acting when she doesn't have a showy scene. Her instincts are so predictable and shockingly amateur. It's fucking crazy she won Emmys over master actors like Laura Linney and Jodie Comer and has two more Emmys than Steve Carell (who has zero). I thought this forum would know better than to confuse most acting with best acting...

Zendaya's career trajectory really does baffle me, even with the understanding that Hollywood is far from a meritocracy. That being said, the raw intensity she demonstrated in the aforementioned episode of Euphoria does indicate that she's not completely without talent.

I get the criticism of her in the Spider-man movies, but not on Euphoria.

Zendaya's career trajectory really does baffle me, even with the understanding that Hollywood is far from a meritocracy. That being said, the raw intensity she demonstrated in the aforementioned episode of Euphoria does indicate that she's not completely without talent. Her career trajectory is carefully planned PR genius that got the biggest boost once Harvey Weinstein noticed her. Iirc she was working with him for a couple of years to transition out of Disney. Her stylist said she was Weinstein’s special guest at the Globes in 2016 and a couple months later she booked Spider-Man. Her stylist is the other key to her career trajectory bc she established herself as a red carpet star while still on Disney. He said he used to do little publicity stunts to get her tabloid notices. Add to that she’s a sample size, tall, very light skinned racially ambiguous biracial, and very pretty. That is the Gen Z celebrity. Her and Selena Gomez, another mediocre Disney actor who has a career bc of social media power I agree she isn’t talentless. But the hype and accolades is insane. Entertainment journalists wrote articles saying she deserved EGOT for that Euphoria episode. I wasn’t impressed even if it was her best work bc it felt inauthentic and very “Look at me Acting”. Meanwhile a consistent nuanced drug addict portrayal by Kaitlyn Dever in Dopesick didn’t get that hype, and Dever can act circles around Zendaya. So can Jenna Ortega

Like when she breaks the fourth wall, she does her Disney acting especially the facial expressions that almost feel like they’re designed to be used as reaction gifs for stan Twitter. Perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad if this mediocre acting wasn’t Emmy winning especially over performances 5x better

I mean, she is good but not great…yet. She is still young & has not been tested yet. We all know she loathes the horror genre & is so good at it. However, she needs to step out of that for a while. Flipflop back & forth occasionally.
