song & score are two categories I don't rank as find new ones, I put everything that stood out to me in a list and review it later to pick my favs. This year there are tons of options especially for score and narrowing it down to a top 5 for me is going to be brutal. So this is a thread for everyone to shout out their favorite film scores of 2022 (basically an AMARA FYC thread in disguise). Maybe we can all pick up some things we missed this is what I'm currently working with for score: Amsterdam — Pemberton The Banshees of Inisherin — Burwell Bones And All — Reznor & Ross Crimes of the Future — Shore Emily — Korzeniowski Everything Everywhere All at Once — Son Lux The Menu — Stetson The Northman — Carolan & Gainsborough Three Thousand Years of Longing — Holkenborg The Wonder — Herbert (these didn't stand out to me but I'll give them another look - music opinions are fickle) All Quiet on the Western Front — Bertelmann The Batman — Giacchino The Fabelmans — Williams and of course I'm still missing like 15 films ( Babylon being one) so this could change, but what 2022 scores did everyone else love?

Bones & All is worth highlighting. Not the most exciting music but I found it really soothing and beautiful. Reznor & Ross's sparse acoustics are reminiscent of Santaolalla's guitar scores with echoes of Ry Cooder. Nothing beats those soulful pluckings.

The Menu score had no business being as good as it was for a quirky eat-the-rich comedy horror but I didn't realize until after watching it that it was scored by the great Colin Stetson. Listening to it again I'm amazed how similar it sounds to Hereditary. It makes similar chaotic use of strings with cacophonic percussive sounds and rapturous choral arrangements. The climactic track "The Purifying Flame" does the same thing "Reborn" did for Hereditary. Make something exultant out of something profane.
I guess one's mileage with the score depends on one's mileage with the film but taken in isolation this is fucking great music.

lots of great reasons to watch Emily but one of them is Abel Korzeniowski's beautiful score. Pounding violins meet resounding pianos that convey Brontë's turbulent inner life while still founding beauty in the dissonance out in the lonely countryside. Similar in tone to At Eternity's Gate, leaves a big impression. He does this kind of music so well. narrowing down my picks has been really hard this year, and I'm still missing Women Talking.
