Deadwyler and Davis missing, and Risenborough getting in for a movie that nobody has actually seen, sorely because a lot of people in the industry suddenly supported her for some reason, is quite frankly horrendous optics on the academy's part. Absolutely. I feel bad for Riseborough now bc the most insufferable people on Twitter are gonna call her racist

My first reaction is why is the Academy hating on Decision to Leave Korea's "gotcha" style films have never been the Academy's cup of tea. Not surprised by this snub at all, and frankly I'm happy about it as I find the movie quite terrible.

Also, having now lived with Top Gun for three years come February, I now have eternal bragging rights that āI saw the Best Picture nominee before ANYONE ELSE!ā

Iām sorry but Brian Tyree Henry getting nominated for Causeway is an absolute joke. Nothing about that movie and no one in the movie is Oscar worthy

Some quick reactions before I read thru this thread: -Fabelmans had a really nice showing -EEAAO had a better showing than I anticipated and I should probably start considering it the frontrunner -TGM making screenplay but missing Cinematography is beyond baffling -Supporting Actorā¦woah -Happy de Armas made it and Risebourogh actually happening is cool. āFilm Twitterā is going to have a huge meltdown Iām sure though over no Deadwyler or Davis. I look forward to that. -Happy for everything Banshees and All Quiet Iām sure Iāll have more thoughts later Youāre looking forward to the meltdown? You have stomach for it I guess. I muted their names so I donāt have to see the insanity lol

David Lynch was better than Judd Hirsch. Amenā¦ such a bizarre āstandoutā from this movie. I have no idea why heās even in the conversation. If I had to pick someone, it would be Dano, but instead we have the worst (Williams) and the forgettable (Hirsh) getting nominated for this one.

To all the people bitching and moaning about Andrea's nomination : have you actually watched TO LESLIE ? Her performance was absolutely phenomenal !!!Or are you simply mad because Andrea is too white for your taste ? So many great small-budget indie gems get overlooked by the Academy . So kudos to all the actors who have campaigned for these incredible film + performance. lol The Answer to this is obvious, because I donāt think many sane people would watch these two movies and argue that Davis was better. People are arguing about the optics of it considering the 2 black actresses who seemed like locks especially Deadwyler missed out. The optics looks bad. Thereās a big difference between arguing about the optics vs. who gave the better performance I now feel bad for Riseborough bc her nomination feels tainted and sheās going to unfairly be smeared as racist

If anything it just ensures Bassett winning Supporting Actress.

By itās begun I assume you mean tweets from random people which will be made to look like a huge outrage instead of a very minor online presence which does not remotely reflect the general public?

This statement is silly. Nobody has actually seen most of these movies. This is an industry award. Of course people in the industry supporting her would lead to her getting in. People should be more upset at the Michelle Williams category fraud.
