I have just watched the Fablemans and all of its Oscar nominations are awful mistakes. My goodness what is going on. What a terrifibl, terrible movie. Something sinister is going on and for some reason Andrea riseborough is taking the fall

So happy to see MM Keeravani in there. Still surreal that a fellow Telugu speaking person is Oscar nominated and sharing space with the likes of Spielberg and all.

The Oscar nominated An Ostrich Told Me the World is Fake and I Think I Believe It is wonderfully weird.

Really not comfortable with the argument that racism isn't alive and well at AMPAS because Moonlight won BP in 2016 (like two months after Trump took office) and Asian and Asian-American actors are finally getting nominated in acting categories after 100 years. And every time Davis or any other POC actor or director complains about the continuing racial disparity in the industry or about Oscar snubs I see people immediately diminishing their perspectives (basically telling them to sit down and shut up) by saying their film or performance wasn't worthy. Come on, as if the Oscars has ever been a meritocracy. No one is denying that racism doesn't exist at AMPAS but there's no evidence to suggest that the snub's year was due to racism especially when the nominees are more diverse than ever and with a black nominee getting a surprise nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Give me a break. Two things can be true: racism is still a problem and not every single thing that doesn't favor poc is inherently racist
Also what is the point of mentioning that Asians are finally getting nominated after 100 years? We know why they weren't nominated for like 80 years, and that's because the US was an even more racist country
It's just so annoying to me that when real change is actually happening, people are acting like it's still the 1940s just because their personal favorite didn't get nominated
It's also silly and misguided to whine about AMPAS when the problem is with opportunities, which projects are being made vs. not, casting, crew behind the camera, etc. AMPAS is at the end of the line. I don't get why people especially actors can't understand this

I mean apart from To Leslie and Blonde, I suppose that's true. Hirsch's performance is such a consolation prize though, and Woman Talking in BP feels very much like a "thank you for playing" kinda nom. Well and even in those instances. To Leslie was critically lauded, with many being adoring Riseborough's work. Blonde was largely panned, however some loved it, and many who disliked the film still often were impressed by De Armas's work. And while Women Talking felt like zero passion nominations, it too was critically lauded and was a TIFF audience runner-up. And also: If you removed de Armas's nomination, you technically lose diversity by no longer recognizing the first Cuban actress recognized by Oscar, and if you removed Women Talking's nominations you do the same by removing a film directed and written by a woman. Many people don't think white women breaking barriers counts bc they're "privileged" therefore erasing their womanhood is ok

“ We’re talking about people who perhaps chose not to see the film. We’re talking about misogynoir. It comes in all kinds of ways. Whether it’s direct or indirect, it impacts who we are". “The question is more intent on people who are living in whiteness, white people’s assessment of what the spaces they are privileged by are doing,” Deadwyler continued. Nobody is entitled to have people watch their movie. It is now "misogynoir" to not watch a movie that stars a black actress. I guarantee that if people wanted to see a movie about black people, they'd watch it. Look at Wakanda Forever scoring an Oscar nod for Angela Bassett. People were interested in that film, and the color of the cast's skin did not impact it negatively. Look at EEAAO and its Asian cast looking to be the frontrunner for best picture and maybe best actress as well.People on the street just want the best product possible. They don't care who is behind it. That's why slave labor and climate pollution is so rampant. It is the same deal in the arts: make a movie people want to watch - or one that gets great word of mouth because of its high quality, as has happened with EEAAO - and voters will choose to see your film. ...Unless you're talking about To Leslie, in which case it would be pretty messed up if people voted without watching. But if all your evidence for that is "perhaps," you clearly have nothing but sour grapes to support you. I hope this drama happens every year until people start making quality movies to bait Oscars instead of mediocre ones. I want actors like Deadwyler to succeed - she was quite good in The Harder They Fall - but nobody will give a shit about what you have to say on "whiteness" and "white people's spaces" and "privilege" if your movie doesn't deliver a product that is worthwhile. This is what really bugs me. A dark skinned black woman in her 60s overcame heavy bias against a goddamn Marvel movie to become a frontrunner at the Oscars. That is incredible but people are talking about misogynoir because two other black women didn't get their nominations. Never mind that one of the "snubbed" black women is another dark skinned black woman in her 50s who completed an EGOT, something only 18 people have achieved (note: 2 other EGOT winners are also dark skinned black women). She also has 3 other Oscar nominations. It's also interesting people continue ignoring the strides made in representation for Asians during this racism outrage

Just thought of a fun way to shave some time off the ceremony. The Vegas odds leader going into the show should just present their award. So if they win, we can save the walk up to the stage and faux surpris, and if they lose - it creates an entertaining moment where they have to hand the award to their upset.

Even though I don’t like EEAAO, I’m glad the movie is going to lead to meaningful change and more opportunities for talented actors like Ke Huay Quan getting work. He 100% deserves it. It’s so sad he lost his health insurance and in the middle of a pandemic
He’s the best part of this awards season for me. I find his journey heartbreaking but also hopeful. Can’t wait for his Oscar speech!

What a tacky post by Michelle Yeoh…reposting an article and a screenshot of the article where it’s basically saying Cate Blanchett shouldn’t win bc she already has two Oscars. This is begging for an Oscar and the underlying narrative is “Give it to me bc I’m a WOC” Also how is this not against campaign rules? Frances Fisher got shit for mentioning other nominees, but it’s ok for Yeoh to post an article mentioning her direct competitors: Cate Blanchett, Andrea Riseborough, and Michelle Williams http://instagram.com/p/Cpf6S7dJ6w7
