All About Eve or Sunset Boulevard
Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond or Bette Davis as Margo Channing
Both choices are very close for me, but I go with All About Eve for the film and Swanson for performance.

I'm not a huge fan of either film, but in spite of all the black glorious magic that Wilder produces in his movie, I just love the arc of the title character in All About Eve so much that I'd give that one the edge. I'd take Davis over Swanson in a heartbeat. That is one of the great, great, great movie stars shining her very brightest. She doesn't have the arc that Baxter gets, nor is she doing work as detailed as elsewhere in her career, it's just pure star wattage. I'll take that over a garish slab of ham any day of the week, though each film gets the perfect performance it requires.
