So I thought I'd carry on making these threads for a while at least.
Who are your 5 best and 5 worst of the nominees so far in Leading Actor:
Best 1 Joaquin Phoenix, The Master 2 Bruce Dern, Nebraska 3 Leonardo DiCaprio, The Wolf of Wall Street 4 Gary Oldman, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy 5 Jean Dujardin, The Artist
Worst 1 Eddie Redmayne, The Danish Girl 2 Bradley Cooper, American Sniper 3 James Franco, 127 Hours 4 Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant 5 Brad Pitt, Moneyball
I think leading actor has been mostly solid to very good, and now and again excellent this decade. I've about 5 of the 35 performances still to see, but Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl is about the only one I could say I truly had outright distaste for. The others I listed under worst are mostly blah stuff I felt nothing for either way.

Affleck, Mortensen, Keaton, Phoenix, Carrell
HM to the two DiCaprios, Bardem, Eisenberg and Pitt
Dujardin, Jackman, DDL (he wasn't even that bad, but the film was just too shitty), Cranston (easily a "welcome to the movies" nom if that makes sense), Redmayne (his biopic: part 2)
HM to Eddie Hawking (even when he was the best thing about his POS movie), Firth and some other stuff I def must've chosen to forget.

The only people I'd wanna put in a 'worst' category would be Jean Dujardin and Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl).

Ryan Gosling- La La Land Matt Damon- The Martian James Franco- 127 Hours Jeff Bridges- True Grit Jessie Eisenberg- The Social Network (2010 was a weak year for Actor, although I'd say all three of them were still pretty good, it's just the first two that I think were genuinely "meh")

BEST:1. Casey Affleck - Manchester By The Sea (A Subtle, Human, Heartbreaking Achievement.)
2. Michael Fassbender - Steve Jobs (No Weight Loss or Prosthetics for Fassbender to embody Steve Jobs, while also capturing his Humanity to perfection.)
3. Michael Keaton - Birdman, or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (Keaton goes BEYOND playing himself in a complex, in-depth, Triumphant fashion.)
4. Joaquin Phoenix - The Master (Rough and Dirty, hard to watch at times, yet captivating. He BECOMES a different person. Better than Daniel Day Lewis in 'Lincoln.')
5. Jean Dujardin - The Artist (A Charming Performance that's Profound and Powerful. Without a Single Word.) (HONORABLE MENTION)
Matthew McConaughey - Dallas Buyers Club (McConaughey becomes the Heroic Ron Woodroof. Blows Leo out of the water.) WORST:1. Eddie Redmayne - The Danish Girl (Look, I know a lot of people adore this guy... but COME ON! What a Mediocre Performance.)
2. Bradley Cooper - American Sniper ("Generic Actor Man" who snubbed Gyllenhaal and Oyelowo, what a damn shame.)
3. Matt Damon - The Martian (Matt Damon plays Matt Damon, enough said.)
4. Leonardo Dicaprio - The Revenant (Above 'decent' performance for "Leo Standards." A lot of grunting, and the consumption of Bison Liver.)
5. Leonardo Dicaprio - The Wolf of Wall Street (Everyone must be wearing rose-tinted lenses. All I see is Leonardo Dicaprio playing a Movie Character.) (DIS-HONORABLE MENTION)
Ryan Gosling - La La Land (Not to say he's bad. He's pretty decent actually, and fits his role perfectly. He snubbed Adam Driver for 'Paterson' though)

Best: 1. Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club
His Erin Brockovich moment. Endlessly entertaining and so compelling to watch. 2. Benedict Cumberbatch, The Imitation Game
Alan Turing had a brilliant mind but also a tortured soul. Cumberbatch explored both of those sides perfectly. 3. Michael Keaton, Birdman
His best performance. Who would know it would come so late in his career? Perfectly captures vulnerability and delusion of his character, managing to be funny at the same time. 4. Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea
A masterclass in subtle acting. Says so much without actually verbalizing. 5. George Clooney, The Descendants
Payne always brings out the best in his actors, and this is no exception. Clooney plays a simple man, and his performance is captivating.
Worst: 1. Ryan Gosling, La La Land
Was this really the actor we saw in Drive? Gee... I just hope this doesn't hurt his career. 2. Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant
Emotionally empty and a ridiculous attempt to give him an Oscar. 3. Eddie Redmayne, The Theory of Everything
It needs a rewatch, but my impression when I first saw it was that he invested too much on the physical part of his character, and didn't focus much on the emotional side. 4. Michael Fassbender, Steve JobsBoring. 5. Eddie Redmayne, The Danish GirlThe physical approach was a bit over the top and somehow misguided, but I got the impression that in his scenes with Vikander, she managed to actually take some good things out of him.

Best: 1. Joaquin Phoenix, The Master Brilliant acting. 2. Brad Pitt, Moneyball He became Billy Beane on the screen. 3. Gary Oldman, Tinker Tailor Soldier, Spy Not his best performance, but very unique and compelling. 4. Christian Bale, American Hustle Again, he dived into the character, and this time shamelessly. 5. Eddie Redmayne, The Theory of Everything Not only did he nailed the physical movements, even the facial expressions as well.
Worst: 1. Ryan Gosling, La La Land He is still himself....I didn't even feel his passion for Jazz. I don't think we ran out of great performances :/ 2. Matt Damon, The Martian Oh hey, it's Matt Damon in space. He didn't even dive into the character. (or is the character Matt himself? I see no value in his performance for such praise. 4. Leonardo Dicaprio, The Revenant He is not bringing something new for a new character. It is the same Leo feeling pain, distress again but this time in a different setting. 3. Andrew Garfield, Hacksaw Ridge It was alright, solid acting which needs not an Oscar nomination. 5. Bradley Cooper, Silver Linings Playbook Performance was good, but Bradley could have done more to flesh out his character.
