Anybody watching this? I saw the first 3 episodes. Pretty decent stuff so far. Graveyard Rats is the best one. More creepy and disturbing than Scary.

Oh honey, I'm finding it disappointing. Obviously a lot has been spent on CGI but very little on story development. I did finish a couple of episodes with the thought: What was the point of that?

First few episodes were really underwhelming. First few episodes were actually better. The later episodes are super underwhelming. All in all a forgettable series, IMO.

Why did nobody tell me that Ana Lily Amirpour is directing a film based on an Emily Carroll short story!?!?!? Unfortunately, that short story is Some Other Animal's Meat (one of her worst), but it probably fits a movie adaptation better than most of her other works. Trying to adapt His Face All Red or A Lady's Hands Are Cold is an impossible ask, as lengthening the stories or lessening the artificiality of Carroll's campfire-ghost-story voice would hinder what makes them so terrifying. The broad satire of Meat certainly fits the cinematic medium more comfortably. I could see someone working The Nesting Place into a movie, though. It is her most traditionally cinematic story (complete with a grief metaphor, the hottest thing in horror filmmaking today), and if you could grab Willem Dafoe to narrate the "monster stories" that bookend the tale (or just narrate the whole short story on Youtube or something), I would never sleep again. "Bell's mother told her about monsters. She told her of the man-shaped thing that lurked in the cellar of her childhood home. How its bone-white face, with its piano-key teeth and burnt-out eyes, would peer up from the bottom of the steps..." Definitely going to check that one out, at least.
