The controversy is a question mark hanging over proceedings for sure, but I just don't think the Academy cares that much tbh. |

Honestly I’m not sure he gets nominated for either way. His character is really mostly an observer of the more interesting characters. The category fraud and possibility of the movie being a big player help but I’m not huge on his chances. |

Assuming that Farrell, Butler and Fraser are our top three, Nighy's always going to be a threat, and that leaves one spot. Jackman's probably done unless The Son rebounds with the industry (which is always possible; the studio is very good). I'm really not feeling Pitt here, as he did just win a couple years ago for a film with similar vibes/stylings (and his tabloid issues might mean that he doesn't really put himself on the campaign trail as much so as not to draw any negative press towards the movie). I really do think Cruise is going to hit big with industry noms just off the back of Maverick's success, and they may deign to recognize him individually for being the face of that success. Right now I'd have him at 6-7, with room to move up. |

Honestly, I'm tired of category fraud and putting leading performances in supporting, where they have an overwhelming advantage due to more screentime. And we've seen leading performances by minorities get docked to supporting for no defensible reason (Mahershala Ali in Green Book being the most egregious). |

If we are being honest I would have considered all 3 of them lead. I think the best strategy would have been to have Pitt lead. Calva has little chance in lead.
