How have I not made this thread already? Aaliyah was all primal energy and great Timbaland beats.

I remember the days of 2000. My friends (girls) were more into Aaliyah than Beyonce. Try Again was played in our pool parties a lot.
Whadabout Missy Elliott, future one of wise music opinions?

In general Aaliyah fans also make far better - and funnier - MAR posters than the Beyonce fans do obviously.....aw come on, you were all thinking it....

I freaking loved her so much ! Such a tragic loss . If she was still alive, what would be her status in the music industry? Yeah , she probably would have been as big as Queen B and maybe even bigger (she was already such a trailblazer in her field). Could have had a nice career in the movie industry as well (another great passion of hers).

I sometimes wonder how Beyoncé and Jay-Z's respective careers would have been impacted if Aaliyah and Biggie hadn't passed away.

IMHO, I think Aaliyah's passing is the only reason why Beyonce is well... Beyonce.

No disrespect to the Beyhive, but Aaliyah is definitely more my vibe. I put on her or Jhene Aiko if I want that chill, sultry female R&B to zone out to. Aaliyah's soft vocals over the Timbaland beats for One in A Million does it for me.
Aaliyah and Jhene Aiko (who I have to be honest, is more talented than Aaliyah was - versatile, writes her own songs, more depth) are more similar than Aaliyah and Beyonce are musically. Beyonce has already cemented herself as a powerhouse superstar to the extent where she has survived R&B's decline.
It is possible that Aaliyah would have gone the way of Ashanti though - who was debatably her successor. Ciara to me was a wannabe who could dance the best out of everyone, but Ashanti was HUGE after Aaliyah's passing and then eventually faded out. I also think it would have come down to the producers and collaborators to keep her hot. Because we have to remember, Rihanna might have still come along, hogged mostly everything and overshadowed her (pre-billionaire status).

I sometimes wonder how Beyoncé and Jay-Z's respective careers would have been impacted if Aaliyah and Biggie hadn't passed away. I think Beyonce would have still gone solo and been big, to be honest. But both Jay and Beyonce benefit from being a power couple in some way, even though they are separately extremely successful. Interesting tidbit is that Jay-Z wanted Aaliyah first, but she chose Dame Dash. Jay then moved on to Beyonce. Now imagine if Aaliyah lived and got with Jay-Z. That would have ended up being a big power couple.
