Ethan is the better Coen! His short story collection rules and proves he's more the writer and Joel was more the director. Can't wait for this!

This and The Tragedy of the Macbeth couldn't be more different. Guess Joel is more of the visualist and Ethan is the writer.

Honestly, that looks loads of fun. Qualley's really channeling her mama and Viswanathan looks a lot of fun. Plus I'm always happy to see Bill Camp and Colman Domingo in things.

Like Pavan said one was the visual stylist and one was the narrative specialist - Ethan would have never wanted Shakespeare's ToM to be that gutted in the middle that it became Joel Coen's ToM .......... the only drawback to that otherwise fine movie version.....and I bet he would (wrongly) consider the dazzling visual stylings - especially in the first 1/3rd - as stomping over the sacred text.
It's kind of like when the Beatles broke up and you get work from the individuals that evokes their collaborations without matching their collaborative peak.....but I'd love to be proven wrong......and I'd love for Ethan's version to be tightly written and not over-written........

Colman Domingo is very talented and getting booked a lot lately. Now in a Coen movie? Good for him.

Are we sure this wasn't directed by Etan Cohen?

The trailer for this looked cool. Liked the chemistry with the couple, always down for Matt Damon as a villain and you'd have to imagine it's at least a solid script.

It does kinda feel like Frances just really wanted to do Macbeth and Ethan wasn't into it lol

Currently at an ok 69% on Rotten Tomatoes with 52 reviews and a barely passing 62 Metcritic Score with 24 reviews.
Quite a few of the positive reviews seemed to really want to like this, but reading between the lines I wonder how much they'd have excused all the issues they have with the movie if Ethan Coen's name wasn't on it. It's got it's fans, but far from a homerun critically.

It's insane to me that a Coen Brothers movie ( even if it's a solo one) could land with this thudding level of disinterest, but here we are. A very average 66 % Rotten Tomatoes score with 158 reviews ( and an awful 35% audience score) and a below average 58 on Metacritic. DOA at the box office as well.
It seems clear now that Ethan needs Joel, a lot more than Joel needs Ethan

Having seen (and loved) the movie, it's not surprising to me that the movie isn't doing well. Coen comedies usually receive mixed reviews at the time of release and the film in its premise and marketing is not exactly posing itself as a 4-quadrant hit being an R-rated comedy road movie centered on lesbians. Just looking at a lot of audience reviews, a lot of people are complaining about the "gratuitous" lesbian sex (Jesus, when did people become such fucking puritans?).
I think it'll find its audience and gain a cult following over time, though.

I admire your optimism and hopefully I'll like it myself when I see it , but jeez, that audience score on RT is rough, beyond the mixed critics reviews . I think it's the lowest for any Coen Brothers movie. It's the third lowest ranked Coen Brothers movie on RT as well, after The Hudsucker Proxy ( which I hate) and The Ladykillers ( which I also find terrible). The Coens have a great body of work, but they have made duds, imho.
