Looks like unpretentious fun though. Sure, and I’ll probably watch the night it drops. But it’s clearly not a major disservice to dump this to streaming over theatrical and no way it’s in the top tier of Liman movies. Who knows how good it is till we actually watch it? Amazon is marketing it how they feel like and Liman obviously disagrees with it. I'll watch it myself and decide if it's top tier Liman or not. I won't base that decision of a trailer.

He could just be hyping his own movie (especially under the circumstances) and a lot of creators tend to get excited and think whatever their latest thing is was their best. Regardless if this is better than Bourne Identity I'll eat my shirt.

From a Variety piece on the controversy: I guess Liman is on Silver's side in this situation. But the "They all took the money" part is funny.

Getting mostly good reactions at first screening. Not sure that'll mean much for it's eventual critics score, but better than having mostly bad reactions at a first screening. And it sounds like a good time. Even the few negative ones I've seen highly praising Jake Gyllenhaal's performance

Starts off with a very solid 74% on Rotten Tomatoes with 19 reviews so far and 68 Metcritic with 11 reviews so far. Pretty good for this kind of movie, but we'll see how it holds up as more reviews come in. Gyllenhaal receiving a lot of praise for his performance. Won't be up for any Oscars obviously, but seems like a nice addition to his body of roles. It might not be the best film Doug Liman has ever made as he claimed (if you don't hype up your work, who will ), but looks like I was right to have faith in him producing something worth watching.

The problem is gonna be no Gazzara, no magic........you can't take out Gazzara or Vittorio Gassman & Henry Silva from Sharky's Machine out and expect it to work...and no one is dumb enough to remake Sharky's Machine are they?
