And Doug Liman is directing?! I struggle to see the appetite for a Road House remake but okay...

What is Jake doing? Having fun and making money? I'm sure he's having fun and making money, but what happened to doing good movies? Leo just got $30m for a Scorsese film, and I'm sure had a good experience on set...

I think that after a bunch of unsuccessful attempts at winning awards he decided to say 'Fuck it' and switched his focus to catching the attention of the action/thriller audiences.

I can’t find the quote but he recently said he’s found his comfort zone and just wants to play fun manic roles like Ambulance and Spider-Man at this point is career. And it’s a lot less stressful for him as an actor.

Which has zero to do with any other actor or the movies they make. It has everything to do with every other actor and the movies they make. You can't "sell out". You can only be too unimaginative or unpopular to make money doing great shit. See: The Rock. He doesn't give a shit about cinema. Being a 9th rate Tom Cruise or 5th rate Will Smith who earns less than either is good enough for him. I didn't think Jake was going to suddenly drop his artistic aspirations in cinema like a hot potato.

Why can't Hollywood leave revered classics alone?!

Why can't Hollywood leave revered classics alone?! I like the original Roadhouse a lot. It's s lotta fun and Patrick Swayze kicks ass....but I'm not sure I'd call it a "revered classic". It's more like a well liked B-movie. I think these are the type of movies they aren't afraid to remake because of that. It's not like remaking Goodfellas or something, where hell would rain upon them from all corners if they dared . Speaking of Swayze, they basically remade Point Break ( which I consider a revered cult classic), but changed the title and some basic details and called it The Fast And The Furious.

How the fuck did I not know this film was directed by Doug Liman On form he's a great director, and despite some misses he has some real classics ( Swingers, The Bourne Identity, Mr & Mrs Smith, Edge Of Tomorrow ). I saw American Made with Tom Cruise and thought that was incredibly entertaining. Bad news is Liman is protesting his own film because Amazon broke it's commitment to give Roadhouse a theatrical release. Good news is Liman is very effusive about Roadhouse and says it's his best movie . That's a huge statement to make, considering some of the films he's made. I've gone from being "umm, okay, why is Gyllenhaal slumming in a remake of a Patrick Swayze B-movie, to being genuinely excited to see this.

Can we just agree that this type of film can not really be made now?
Like aside from John Wick and S. Craig Zahler this type of action film belongs to a different era.....
Who is a villain that can compare to Gazzara in the OG or Gassman in Sharky's Machine?
Pfffft

I get why Liman's pissed - signing up for a theatrical MGM film and seeing it become a streaming thing has to sting - but bro, come off your fucking high horse. He's describing his remake of Road House (Road House ffs) starring that box office magnet Jake Gyllenhaal as if Amazon is keeping Titanic from us or something.
"I made a great film" = sure, Doug. Very humble.
"Road House tested higher than my biggest box office hit, Mr. and Mrs Smith. It tested higher than Bourne Identity, which spawned four sequels" = and The Flash tested higher than any DCEU movie. And Goodfellas got some of the worst test scores in WB history. Big deal.
"Road House has a strong tie-in to the UFC, which has a rabid and loyal fan base" = yeah, because rabid Taylor Swift fans sure turned Cats and Amsterdam into BO hits.
"The action is ground-breaking" = uh-uh, definitely looks like the new Fury Road judging from that trailer.
"And they deprive Jake Gyllenhaal — who gives a career-best performance — the opportunity to be recognized come award season" = lol. Amazon movies aren't eligible for People's Choice Awards?
Sorry to go off like this but I think there're different ways to express your disappointment about stuff such things. I actually suspect this statement is a ploy to make Amazon change their mind in the vein of that whole Release the Snyder Cut thing. Let's see if it works and what's gonna happen in that case. Somehow a 40 mil domestic + instant oblivion scenario seems likelier than a mega-hit one.

After watching the trailer I think you should probably temper your expectations. Looks like unpretentious fun though. Sure, and I’ll probably watch the night it drops. But it’s clearly not a major disservice to dump this to streaming over theatrical and no way it’s in the top tier of Liman movies.
