Both of them are absolute masterpieces of their respective genres (horror and action), and both rank in my all-time top 30. But I'd have to give the slight edge to Alien, which is just a straight up perfect movie.

Alien. While there are a lot of great things about Aliens I just hate what they did there. 100 creatures which are easily killed is so much less scary and interesting than 1 that seems impossible to defeat. It's a great (albeit dumb) action movie but I always prefer horror when it comes to Alien

Certainly Alien. Suspence > Action, generally

Alien, although I will say that Weaver's performance in Aliens is masterful, nuanced work.

Alien, but both movies are masterclasses of their respective genres, and far and away the best entries in the franchise.

Love em both but Aliens gets the edge for me. James Cameron delivered a fantastic sci fi / action film for the ages. Featuring a strong performance from Weaver and a great supporting cast . Most notably Bill Paxton (RIP) & Michael Biehn.
both are basically perfect in my eyes so I don't see a wrong answer here haha.

Alien is so much more engaging on an emotional and narrative level. Aliens is basically just a shoot-em-up action piece with obligatory anti-capitalist subtext per the usual for a Cameron film. Plus is has that fucking little girl

Both of them do their respective genres about as well as has ever been done, but I think that the more personal arc at the centre of Aliens gives it the slight edge for me. Plus, Veronica Cartwright isn't in it.

Alien, absolutely. Great psychological analysis of a phenomenon. It has multiple metaphorical keys of interpretation, from symbolic to cyber-thinking.

After re-watching one and first time watching the other in the last couple of days, I've got to give the slight edge to Aliens.
