Ted Lasso leads the pack with 10 nominations. Barry, Hacks, Only Murders and Ted Lasso are nominated for acting, directing and writing. Maisel only scored acting nominations, nothing for writing or directing.
Last year was a tight race between Ted Lasso and Hacks. Ted Lasso won comedy, actor, supporting actress and supporting actor. Hacks took home actress, directing and writing.
Schitt's Creek did a grand sweeper in 2020 winning everything under the sun.
In 2019, we had Fleabag winning comedy, actress, writing and directing. Maisel took home wins for supporting actor and actress. Barry won for best actor.
Maisel in 2018 took home comedy, actress, supporting actress, directing and writing. Barry won for actor and supporting actor.
Who do you think wins it this year? This appears to be a five-person race between Barry, Hacks, Abbott, Murders, and Ted Lasso.

Can never predict these things. Emmys give out awards on a whim. My gut says it's between Hacks and Ted Lasso (leaning towards Hacks personally) but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they honor new kids on the block Abbott Elementary or Only Murders. They love awarding new shows.
Maisel, Shadows, or Enthusiasm winning would shock me.

Even if that's your line of thinking (I don't see anything wrong with it still being classified a comedy), it still has no barring whatsoever on it's position in the Emmy race. |

Modern Family was the last time a network show won the top prize. The "network show thing" can be viewed as both an advantage and disadvantage. It depends on how voters feel about network shows. Do you they see it as "in the past" or something that needs to be "saved"?

Wow, just looked it up so MF won in 2014. That's a pretty nice run for non-network shows. I think 24 is the last show that won Drama and that has to be at least 15 years by now. Damn, I miss 24 and the Jack Bauer power hour. You're right, they like the shiny new toy so it really is a toss up between those two. I think it boils down to the acting nods. We know Jean Smart will win best actress. OMITB has already won a guest acting nod and it is very possible that Steve Martin pulls off a win for best actor. So not sure, I'm leaning towards OMITB at this point. However, I do think Sheryl will win supporting actress. |
