I am going to roll the dice here. AwardsDaily is already championing the film. For those of you unfamiliar with the real-life story, here's a brief recap: Back in racist 1955 Mississippi, a 14-year old black boy was lynched for allegedly hitting on a white woman in a store. The story became national news and an example of serious racial injustice. A couple of months ago, President Joe Biden signed the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Bill, making lynching a federal hate crime. Obviously it is a timely and sensitive subject matter, just like She Said.
As for the film, it is going to be released on October 7th. Nigerian-American filmmaker Chinonye Chukwu (Clemency) directed the picture and co-wrote the screenplay. Whoopi Goldberg co-stars and produced the production. The film follows Emmett Till's mother as she tries to pursue justice for her son. Danielle Deadwyler (The Harder They Fall & Station Eleven miniseries) plays Till's mother, Mamie Till-Mobley. Frankie Faison (Hannibal film series), Sean Patrick Harris, and Haley Bennett co-star.

It's definitely going to be in the mix. I think Deadwyler gets in but BP and screenplay I could see happening too.

Looks like she’s the 2nd strongest contender behind Blanchett at this point. If the film does well she could pull this off.

I have Deadwyler in the top three for Best Actress, but I'm not overly convinced in any techs or writing categories, and I don't think a single acting nod would be enough to get it over the line in Picture. Even if it's rocking 100% on RT.

Honestly I think the Deadwyler performance is going to help it lead to Picture and Original Screenplay nominations.

Honestly I think the Deadwyler performance is going to help it lead to Picture and Original Screenplay nominations. I think those are very good examples, yes. The year is already looking dense as it is and Till's buzz really coalesces around Deadwyler to the point that I am far more confident in her being the solo nominee than for it hitting any other above-the-line category. It's not out of the question, but right now I'd rate it in the 11-15 range. With that said, I would be much more convinced in Deadwyler's winning chances if the film did break into the top ten.

I'm hoping for a best actress win here. It is gonna be hard for me to watch this movie but I will go see it and support it. I am from MS and my parents had to deal with this crap as kids during this time period. My mother's cousin told me of a story back then where a white paramedic let his friend die because he didn't want to give a black kid mouth to mouth.

Even when I go back home to visit other family it just still feels divided. My aunt made a passing comment about a month ago and based on that I was like, nothing has changed. She even feels at this moment after living through all the stuff in MS that she is considered a second class citizen.

It is very difficult for an unknown to win Best Actress. And this is too competitive of a year. But she will have a lot to gain from the nomination.

So looks like we all agree about Deadwyler. But what does everybody feel about original screenplay, picture and supporting actor for Jalyn Hall?

Ah yeah true, forgot about song. It is going to get at least two nominations. I wouldn't write-off supporting actor, screenplay, or picture either.

Well, I saw the movie. If people watch the movie then she will win. She's really good. It's one of those performances where you can feel the pain.
