Lets talk about Nope, Jordan Peele's third outing as a producer, writer, and director. Peele's feature debut, Get Out, was both a box-office hit and awards darling. The Academy nominated it for picture, director and actor (Kaluuya), and won best original screenplay. Us didn't receive any Oscar nominations, but Lupita Nyong'o did nab a best actress nomination at the SAG awards.
What do you guys think of its odds for Nope? Critically, the film is looking really good. 82% on the Tomatometer. 87/100 from the Broadcast Film Critics. IMDB users gave the film a 7.7/10.

Probably none. If enough contenders fall by the wayside maybe sound or visual effects, but probably not.

It definitely feels much closer to Us than Get Out as far as Oscar goes, and even then, Us had Lupita and its score which feel like they were stronger individual contenders for nominations than anything Nope has. Like the esteemed Mr. Snrub says, there's an outside shot at a few techs but I think this one goes nom-less at this stage.

I can see Sound, Cinematography (Van Hoytema), and Original Score (Abels). Outside shot at Best Picture and Original Screenplay (Peele).

Depending on what side of the bed the music branch wakes up on, Abels could get Greenwood-ed since one of the big cues is lifted from one of his classical pieces. Then again Us still passed eligibility despite using "I Got 5 On It" as a motif.

If Us couldn't score anything, Nope won't either. It's a lot more thematically barebones and the aesthetics aren't even as impressive. I guess a Sound Design nod isn't off the table but I'm not predicting it.

Bump. Does your view of the change? The AFI Top Ten. Palmer won a major critics circle award.

Techs. I think I. Screenplay is too strong this year. By the way, I think Daniel will pull a Denzel eventually...s. actor..actor.

I think its ceiling is sound and/or VFX. Sound because it has some really showy and attention-grabbing work there and VFX just because that field is so weak. Sound is its best attribute but there's also a ton of competition in that field since all the contenders are lumped into one category. In a world where mixing and editing are separate it'd have a much better chance.

I do wonder if Hoyte can sneak into Cinematography... I know the field's pretty packed but the movie is quite visually striking and maybe the use of IMAX imagery can attract enough attention. Not that I'm predicting it at the moment.
