They just voted to limit the EPA’s influence on reducing greenhouse emissions.Whether or not you approve of the EPA, or consider it a joke, this is just petty. And what else? It’s just another way for the mostly Catholic, heavily Evangelical congress to cling to their beliefs, and even if the planet is destroyed, they can still cling to their books saying “Fuck you, got mine.” Because they have their gold castle in the sky to look forward to, but those of us who want to protect THIS home, so that the people AFTER US can live a half decent life… now have to pay for it. You may think I’m going overboard (I have GAD, I always see things in their worst case scenario), you may think I’m being a pessimist (I’m borderline nihilistic, so yeah), but I also feel EMPATHY. Seeing the problems going on with OTHER PEOPLE, not merely my own self interests, and fearing for what will happen after I’m gone. I have nieces and a nephew who are naive, and adorable, and yet to feel how soul-crushing life can be. And yes, it is unbearably repressive, and painful, and at times, seemingly pointless, unless you have 200K in the bank at all times, and you’ve never even heard the phrase “paycheck to paycheck.” But I keep living because, in spite of it all, I WANT to believe the best in people. I WANT to believe, and to see things will get better. No matter how many times something, or someone comes along to prove me wrong. Because I would rather suffer in hope, than take comfort in complacency. Fuck this court!

Just sticking this in here because Tommen mentioned "the future" of the Court - a good article on the new SCOTUS term from today's Sunday NYT: WASHINGTON — The last Supreme Court term ended with a series of judicial bombshells in June that eliminated the right to abortion, established a right to carry guns outside the home and limited efforts to address climate change. As the justices return to the bench on Monday, there are few signs that the court’s race to the right is slowing. The new term will feature major disputes on affirmative action, voting, religion, free speech and gay rights. And the court’s six-justice conservative supermajority seems poised to dominate the new term as it did the earlier one. www.nytimes.com/2022/10/02/us/conservative-supreme-court-legitimacy.html
