I remember the old Hollywood fanboy (a bout de boy whatever his name is) who hated Coppola on IMDB about 10 years ago. He kept trying to forcefeed it on me that she was way below his favorite old Hollywood directors, but this site: thecinemaarchives.com/2020/08/17/the-250-best-directors-of-all-time/ has her ranked above Elia Kazan, William Wyler, and Joseph Mankiewicz so that's someone no one should take seriously.

Jacob Elordi says “I’d do anything for Sofia Coppola.” “It’s pretty fun to completely trust somebody, ’cause it just alleviates so much stress and worry.” Asked if that’s been his usual experience with directors, he says “not at all. Not once up until now.”

A recent BFI talk hosted by Richard Curtis ( ): Some of the major takeaways (for me):Ken Russell's Lisztomania (1975) was a precursor to Marie AntoinetteHumphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were her inspirations for Lost in Translation ( pacinoyes Mattsby Javi ) She met with Leonardo DiCaprio for Somewhere ( Viced !!!) The three films she thinks everyone should see (and have been hugely inspirational to her): All That Jazz (Bob Fosse); Brief Encounter (David Lean); Darling (John Schlesinger). I'll go ahead and post this here, too LaraQ ibbi : P.S.: *Fingers crossed for her to get that Best Director BAFTA nomination for Priscilla*

I haven't watched this yet, but I'm looking forward to it... Edit: Brilliant, totally panoramic - pacinoyes you must watch! It is never endingly fascinating to me how the 3rd Godfather film both fascinates and repels - how some people rethought their POV when the (better, imo) Coda came out even though - it really just gave them a chance to rethink what they thought or what they "heard"..........if you really read the reviews of Coda - you see it's STILL misunderstood (and so is she) ...........that film predated the Internet era - can you imagine what that firestorm that could have scarred her if it came out just a few years later? ...........there's a lot of great Sofia pics in this ^ - that "post-Godfather 3" footage her "dilettante phase" that is really cool ......and of course....so is she
