I got a job writing promotional copy in New York City and am moving tomorrow. Spent my whole life in stinky, hot Florida so far so it is a big change. Hopefully I like it and can spend the rest of my life up there. Always wanted to give a real city a shot.

I'm not sure how to keep going, but the current head on my shoulders is the best it has been in months. I think about JangoB all the time. The students at my school are the walking dead and whisper "How am I supposed to just keep doing this? Pretending everything is okay?" in the hallways. Thoughts and prayers are over the announcements every morning. Once a week I talk my friend out of suicide. All I can do is laugh at the gas prices each day and slowly realize I can't afford to drive to the job that barely covers groceries that are a dollar more expensive than last time. I've gone to counter protests and anti-racism rallies and I know I'm not alone... I know so many people have it worse off. This week I finally called out my family on all their Qanon/conspiracy bullshit and all around awful attitudes from the last two years. They listened which is a huge baby step, but I suppose it was wishful thinking there would be some accountability or apology and my mom told me other people's actions should never bring you to suicide. My sister wrote me a (verrrrrry) long letter where she said she's been "over Covid for a year and doesn't care about it" and "had no idea you hadn't visited my newborn because of health reasons." She told me she has never felt such betrayal when I posted on instagram that I was finally seeing a movie on the big screen after 18 months but hadn't met her baby yet EVEN THOUGH SHE TOLD ME I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO SEE HIM BECAUSE OF VACCINE SHEDDING. She intentionally gave it to my baby nephew and my entire family (apparently including my grandmother who just died) have had Covid and they didn't tell me. But... my cats are incredible. stephen is the best person I've ever known. For the first time in my life therapy has taught me how to build boundaries and I am never allowing my family to treat me this way ever again. People are fucking disgusting and earth was a mistake. I looked my dad dead in the eyes and told him it doesn't make you a weak person to be accommodating. People... I don't like it here. Everything is fucked. How are you? Sigh.

I know your post ends with 'Everything is fucked' but I'm still goddamn touched by the fact that you are concerned about me I'm a pretty positive dude but lately it's obviously been a bit impossible not to have a seed of gloom and doom somewhere in the subconscious. Especially now when I truly have no fucking clue where the country I live in is headed. But of course that's nowhere near the awfulness of what's happening to our neighbors who our gov't had decided to 'save' with a spoonful of bombs. As for the rest of your post, I love this: For the first time in my life therapy has taught me how to build boundaries and I am never allowing my family to treat me this way ever againThe older I get the more I understand that there really is no need to suffer fools IRL. They're kinda fine in the interwebs because it can lead to some laughs but life's too short for patiently waiting for uncomfortable conversations or uncomfortable relationships to be over. Better to do something about them indded!

I have adopted an adorable 11 week old puppy. A black labragoldendoodle (blend of lab, retriever, and poodle from his parents) that I have decided to name⦠Bruno.
Even if puppy blues kinda hit me hard, and I felt guilty for it.

Today I learned firsthand that if you stick your nose too close to a scented candle, your nose hairs burn.

Today is both my sonβs last day of kindergarten and his 6th birthday. I know itβs a cliche but itβs truly crazy how fast everything goes by.

In few weeks, my eldest son is graduating high school... π Congrats to him!Β One of his classmates left the school a couple of months ago because he's a professional basketball player and his team was fighting for top placement. They're playing the second game in the playoffs semifinal right now.

I'm not terribly familiar with the city so I doubt I could help anyway, but knowing what you want to do would make it easier.

Not helpful to you at all, but between the two of us we're down for pretty much anything. Pause. Sightseeing: Smithsonian museums are free. The American Art Museum/Portraiture Gallery is one I usually wind up hanging around in when I'm in town, if you're into... uh... art. But there are several kinds, even a zoo. Sorry, can't offer much else here. Entertainment: D.C. area has the biggest live theater scene in the country outside of New York, most of it within easy access to Metro. If you're here during the summer, most of them are closed, though. There are big companies like Arena Stage (which boasts a complex hosting four our five stages) and Shakespeare Theater Company, down to many small semi-pro groups using whatever secondhand gear is donated to them. I'm pretty sure that there's a bustling music scene too, but I've never dived into it so I can't comment there. Cuisine: Derwood MD has a restaurant near the Shady Grove Metro Station called Wang Manor that my family will always visit if we're nearby. If you're into spicy pork intestine, pork kidney, beef tendon, sea cucumber, abalone, or just something normal like "animal aorta" (I've never had the courage to ask which animal), they offer a lot of these stranger options... but also some AMAZING vegan dishes and more traditional meat dishes. Reasonable prices, too. (Well, some dishes are upwards of $80, but those are probably platters filling a whole table.) It isn't in the city proper and is most definitely an acquired taste, but if you're into this sort of thing and you're nearby, you could certainly do worse. Shopping: Ummm... if you're in Chantilly VA (a fair distance outside of the city), Metrotech Drive is a complex boasting Lotte Plaza, the world's greatest grocery store? Yeah, I've got nothing.

Albuquerque (Breaking Bad tour babyyyyy) San Francisco L.A. Vegas Any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated I'm sure a lot of what I'm about to say for NYC is cliche, but if it's your first time, I'd recommend checking out Empire State Building Statue of Liberty WTC Top of the Rock (although make sure to either get there before it opens early in the morning in order to get through at a decent time as opposed to being stuck on a line all day) There's of course seeing a show on Broadway, although there are Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway shows that are cheaper. Catch a movie at either the Angelika, IFC, or Nitehawk movie theater Relax in Central Park Museum of Natural History The High Line is a nice walk as well. Chelsea Market is good for shopping. Check out the Pyramid Club - an all '80s dance club that's open very late into the night.

Spent about a week there a few years ago and we also checked out the Grand Canyon and Death Valley. As for Vegas itself, well the obvious stuff lol. Just walking around the strip at night is sick too so get those steps in!
