* Blanchett is also acting opposite the great Nina Hoss - in TAR - which is another "two of the best actresses in the world, period" matchup........ * I'm looking forward to Morgan Freeman & Pacino - in the awfully named Sniff (change that, wtf) - but that might be a nothing, PoS movie, and I don't necessarily think their styles will mesh well either........... Freeman to me also sort of went on autopilot / de facto retirement after his last Oscar nod for Invictus and I'm not sure what he can bring at this stage tbh. I'm more excited to see Pacino opposite Helen Mirren again in that same movie really .
* Vanessa Kirby & Laura Dern in The Son is another - assuming they interact....... What are some others you think could be great - or great fun - to see this year

If The Brutalist comes out this year, we get Mark Rylance and Marion Cotillard potentially getting some scenes together (although based off of the premise, it might just be both interacting with Joel Edgerton).

Also in terms of rising talent, Jessie Buckley (who is fast becoming one of my favorite working actresses) is going to be squaring off against perennially underappreciated Rory Kinnear in Men. I'm low-key hoping for a Kinnear awards play this year.

* I posted this in the Blanchett co-stars thread but is there any matchup more delicious in 2022 than arguably the worlds best working actress and best working actor - Blanchett & Phoenix.........in a horror movie no less (apparently) - Blanchett imo is made for this genre. What movie are you talking about?

What movie are you talking about? Disappointment Blvd for A24 Blanchett isn't in that. Also, the genre hasn't really been confirmed at this point? Conflicting reports call it a biopic, comedy, nightmarish comedy and horror comedy. But I guess we'll know next month when it premieres at Cannes.

Brendan Gleeson & Colin Farrell in The Banshees of InisherinDon't forget Barry Keoghan. definitely not! I was just assuming Gleeson and Farrell were the "friends" the IMDB synopsis was talking about and it'll be cool seeing a Bruges reunion. Plus Keoghan is always cool to see. Doesn't matter who's with him Keoghan acting against a brick wall is a matchup I'd be excited for.

I know it's cliché and bland to say it, but DiCaprio and DeNiro in a Scorsese Western is the ultimate acting matchup.

I'll say Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan in She Said. Kazan is one of those faces I'm surprised hasn't broken out yet despite how long she's been around. Maybe hasn't gotten the right role yet, or maybe because Zooey Deschanel took her thunder in the mid to late 00s, or maybe because Ampaas haven't forgotten her grandfather's atrocities yet, but this is as good a chance for her to break thru as she's had. As I had predicted her to be one of the chief players in the 2020s besides Robbie, Lawrence, Emilia Jones and Lily James and hopefully she'll meet my predictions.
As for Mulligan, she's still strong in the heat of her Promising Young Woman nomination and while this role doesn't look like an Oscar winning role....I do think it'll take her either being not that good or the movie being not that good for her to actually not be nominated.

Btw is Meryl Streep in Disappointment Blvd - does anyone know for sure?
That's what I was thinking of yesterday when I said Blanchett and Phoenix .......
Streep was announced for this - but it is not on her IMDB or Wikipedia......very mysterious film this one is, huh?........Streep dropped out? Or it can't be confirmed or.....she's a cameo / surprise non-billed role?

or maybe because Ampaas haven't forgotten her grandfather's atrocities yet, This is the same institution that gave a standing ovation to a pedophile, I don't think they're collectively determined to punish for something they grandfather did (which hardly constitute an atrocity) decades before she was even born.

Especially as they gave said grandfather an honorary Oscar in the interim.

If the Killer is coming out this year, then mine is of course going to have to be Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton. Definitely.

By most accounts, the teaming of the Australian GOAT actress (Nicole Kidman) and the woman she arguably usurped for that distinction (Judy Davis) in an episode of the new anthology series ROAR is pretty special.

Less excited about the project than I am to see these two - Mirren one of the GOATs (as Golda Meir) alongside Camille Cottin one of my "new fav" actresses. Production company did Trumbo, Captain Fantastic, Chicago 7........ I could see it being an acting awards player or coming and going (if it's no good or if the casting controversy crops up again).

Here's a fascinating potential match-up, the producers are aiming to premiere it later this year: Mark Rylance & Kathryn Hunter in a movie called Black Twist (up on Rylance's IMDb). A 20y/o film student hand-delivered the script to Rylance during the pandemic and he accepted the role for free. Shot mid 2020..... described as Lynchian meets Under the Skin.... stephen Breathe, breathe! There was an Indiegogo fundraiser that's still up with lots of info. Also should say: Kathryn Hunter isn't announced yet but she's named in the director's LinkedIn next to Rylance so I'm assuming that's correct. And if the movie is worth its salt, the two stage legends oughta share a scene!
