Good list.... Only one I can't get thru is Jeanne Dielman (and I think there are at least 15 better fem-helmed movies in the decade).

Looking at the 150 critics lists.... Not one mention of Tess or Black Christmas! But hey, Série Noire got a vote. Lotta great individual lists...

Myron Meisel only one to have Chabrol, Olmi, Hitchcock, Kobayashi etc.

David Ansen's list.... Aguirre, The Conformist, Days and Nights in the Forest, Deep End, Godfathers, Mean Streets, McCabe, Spirit of the Beehive.

Niles Schwartz..... The Tenant, Mikey and Nicky, and Slap Shot! Now that's taste.

Peter Labuza only one to have Night of Counting the Years, and a Lino Brocka.... themoviesinner

Yes. Now that's a list. I could stay in that decade and feel blessed as a film watcher. And All the President's Men would be in my top 10 too. I'm obsessed with that movie.

Generally excellent list of the greatest film decade. Only 5 films from my 70’s Top 25 are missing from their Top 50 (Manhattan, Animal House, Opening Night, Last Tango in Paris, Love and Death). I've seen every film on their list but 8 (Jeanne Dielman..., Stalker, Killer of Sheep, All That Jazz, Aguirre Wrath of God, Solaris, Celine and Julie Go Boating, Cabaret).
