It's NOT wishful thinking, cuz I'm fully prepared to be thoroughly disappointed & maybe even quit the show if he loses, but I still have PTA winning Original Screenplay. The way I see it, KING RICHARD has ZERO chance here. DON'T LOOK UP has very slim chances. A whole lot of idiots love it, but the deeply polarizing response (undoubtedly the most of any of the BP nominees) tells me the idiots won't be enough. WORST PERSON could maaaaybe get a shocking upset win (foreign films had won in this category before even before PARASITE), but I'd say it's a safe bet it's between Branagh and PTA. BELFAST got more nods, but I feel like LP has more passion/love amongst its devoted fans, who outnumber its SJW haters, and I think that'll ultimately help him carry the day (as that's often been enough in this category).
But it could go either way, unfortunately. Branagh or PTA. But I'd give PTA a slight edge.

Original Screenplay is really its only viable shot, and while I would love nothing more than for PTA to finally be an Oscar winner, I'm steeling myself up for a Branagh win. But honestly, as much as I loved Licorice Pizza, I am kinda rooting for Belfast as well because I think it's a fine film that is far too over-hated, and frankly I want PTA to keep racking up dem nods so that when it becomes his time, motherfucker gets his Bong Joon-ho moment and walks away with a wheelbarrow full of Oscars.

I think Screenplay, but it would be foolish to assume it’s a lock, because Belfast still won the Globe. But I’m thinking it’ll be an American Hustle/Her type deal with PTA winning.
Picture and Director though, not a chance

After not winning for There Will Be Blood or The Master (not even nominated) or Phantom Thread, it's crazy to think that the one that finally gets him a writing win is a glorified hangout movie, but I still think Belfast has the edge.

LP under performed with only 3 nods. Cooper and Haim were snubbed by the Actors branch.
Belfast has 6 nods - 5 above the line. OS will be the place for AMPAS to reward it if they want.

As unfortunate as it is, I think it's gonna go home empty-handed. I do believe there is a chance of PTA winning Original Screenplay (and I hope it will indeed happen) but I guess they're just gonna give it to Belfast. Essentially as the only way to reward it. It's a shame that PTA's gonna have to remain Oscar-less and it's even more of a shame that Belfast's gonna win here but that's the Oscars for ya!
