NOT limited to this awards season.Go back and forth in time. Pick whatever category you see fit. Make a decision. Make history.

Great thread topicI would give it to Robert Altman for directing M*A*S*H .......... it would have to be someone who doesn't have one and in his case he's the most important American (because I'm American, fnck off world!) I can think of and that work of Art is about America and all its madness...........and no one else could have made it in that way it was made BUT him. I always used to say back when I sculpting my enormous legend in the IMDB days - that M*A*S*H is the best movie to watch when you've had a REALLY bad day - your girlfriend left you, you got fired or had to fire someone you didn't want to, or the beauracracies of Life made you want to drink all the booze in the house. It doesn't matter WHAT it is, just that IT IS. It's a radical piece of Art .........directed by a guy who subverted the movie industry to his own unique sensibility......and it's about a country where the Oscar is the safest reward for Art imaginable in America - what better award to give to a more subversive American artist than Altman.........who would use the Oscar as a doorstop in his fncking bathroom or a paper weight on his toilet.

Kubrick in Best Director for 2001 Good to know I'm not the only one who calls The Godfather "The GodPappy" in my head.

Jack Pierce - Best Makeup & Hairstyling for Frankenstein.
The category didn't exist until the early '80s (not counting to two "special" awards in the '60s) which is a real shame, as Pierce created some of the greatest and memorable makeup creations in film history. I went with Frankenstein as I feel it's his most iconic, but he'd deserve it for The Mummy and The Wolf Man at the very least as well. It's a huge shame that Pierce went without winning any awards for his brilliant works.

Holy cow, what a task. You know, let's remedy the ridiculousness of Hitchcock never having won an Oscar and give him a Best Director award for "Rear Window". At first I wanted to go with Kubrick for "2001" but he at least won a Special Effects Oscar

Can't beat the Altman pick...... I'd go for a later film like Vincent Theo, The Player, Kansas City, or Gosford Park (that one he lost to....Ron Howard).
Another one.... Pacino-The Irishman. Pitt sweeping felt like gaslighting to me....His perf was sweet nothin' and no way he deserved a first win over a Pacino second.

Idk which performance I would give it to since I haven't seen enough, but Greta Garbo certainly deserved an Oscar. I mean, c'mon.

Too lazy to think back (also not clear if we're supposed to keep it to nominees or any in a year), so Garfield for this year.

I'm gonna say Zhang Ziyi . She was the foremost Asian star of the early 00s. Faded away badly, but in the early 00s there was no denying the impact she made. I just don't like the idea of such a pivotal figure in early 00s cinema not being awarded anything. Unless she makes a surprising comeback, she ends her career with 0 Oscar nominations and that just ain't right.
She should've gotten at least a nomination for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Not like the category was a juggernaut that year, and the film was highly popular - so it's interesting she wasn't on the radar from what I can remember from 2000. Maybe somewhat on the radar, but probably wasn't a realistic choice to be nominated. And in 2005, when she was on the radar, she slightly misses. I don't actually think she deserved a nomination for Memoirs of a Geisha, it's just the category was again so weak, I'd be quite ok with a make-up nomination for that snub for Crouching Tiger.

Can we say she would've had magnificent chances had that film come out in 2021? (*looks over Drive My Car nominations*)
