I personally think that the cinematography lineup this year is one of the best they have had in a long time.
Besides The Power of the Dog being a little baffling Art Direction is also strong.

Actually, I think Best Actress is quite strong. I would have loved Cinematography too with Spencer and Passing in the mix.

Strongest is probably Production Design and Cinematography, but I coulda done without Power of the Dog in either.

the fact that Power of the Dog was better than probably every prod. design nominee last year just speaks to how stacked that category is, and I don't know that it even makes my personal top 10. Would've loved for Spencer or Harder They Fall or Last Duel to have had more purchase there, but Grant Major's work is nothing to sneeze at. It's a better nomination than Mulan wouldda been...
Cinematography is my favorite lineup for sure. They're all tremendous picks. Wegner, Delbonnel, and Fraser were practically locks but I really needed Laustsen and Kaminski to get in there over Zambarloukos and my wish came true.
Production Design and Sound are really solid as well, and Costumes are also quite good.

Best Actress is incredible - probably the strongest the category has been since 2006 for me (Cruz was nominated that year, too!).

Yeah, Cinematography is definitely the best one. Thank God the AMPAS DPs had the taste to leave Belfast out of the five, thus making it pretty freaking amazing. Costume Design is another great one and I haven't even seen Cyrano!  But from all the trailers and such the costumes look damn great. Branagh spoils a rather awesome Director lineup too... |

I said it before … if Branagh had missed Director, and Villeneuve gotten in … that’s an all-timer line-up, at least in my eyes.
As others have said, Cinematography and Production Design. I’ll say the later for definitive best because if you swap out Power of the Dog for French Dispatch that’d be my exact line-up, and Power isn’t a bad nominee either even if it is a bit random for such an exterior-heavy film (but hey, those exteriors rule).

I'd agree with everyone that lineups wise it's either Cinematography or Production Design, leaning towards the former. Have those two ever lined up exactly before?  Overall I think the two screenplay categories are crazy fucking strong this year, though you'd never know it looking at the lineups. Original in particular. I think Best Actress is really strong too, though again... Lineup is lame. |

This might be the best year for Best Actress since 2011, but you wouldn't know it to look at some of those nominees (and if you look at 2011's lineup, it's the same deal). |

Listened to some samples of the score nominees and they seem pretty solid. French Dispatch should have been there though.

Pretty easily cinematography for me, although I haven't yet seen Belfast, so some categories are hard to judge.
The best actress lineup is pretty close to what my dream line-up would be (swap Kidman for Reinsve, and possibly Chastain for Haim), so I'm happy about that too.
