I've never considered her the best of a given year or slate of nominees. That said, I really like her Oscar win.

Yes. Her win for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore was incredibly deserved. Found her and unforgivably snubbed of a win for an all timer of a performance in Requiem for a Dream. Wouldn't have made a bad winner for Last Picture Show but Cloris' final scene sealed the deal for her.

Here's a pacinoyes dirty little secret - I don't actually have like "Best Actor Lists 1979" and stuff - like I love y'all but you're freakin' sociopaths to even have such things at all. People deserve to get what they deserve to get - it's their party.....if I ever post such a list it's spur of the moment and meaningless to me. But of course she DOES deserve an AN Oscar relative to the crapola they normally give out which is why Olivia Colman should give Glenn Close her Oscar bitches, and career wins are the best wins - um, anyhoo Burstyn was amazing and pivotal - not even a star until later in life - she burns through the early-mid 70s......she sets up Meryl Streep more than any American except arguably Geraldine Page or Jane Fonda........she's the co-head of The Actor's Studio for 40 years .......she easily could have been nodded for Pieces of a Woman and if she was we'd be jizzing over her like we do Judi Dench (no disrespect, big fan). Also for sex appeal try to catch her Perry Mason episode - early 60s, sensible modern gal hairstyle:

Dude man, you talk about stuff nobody has ever heard of in both music and movies, I've come to expect you should have Best Actor 1979 all written out given the way your encyclopedic brain processes things. Btw..... the reason I haven't seen any major 2021 movie is because we're in the Biden economy, gas is ridiculous, and I don't like the smell and comfort level of cinemas. But if Mann releases Ferrari in 2022 or 2023, there's a movie that will drive me out instantly. I'll be first in line.

Her Alice is an all-timer. I'd pick her over Rowlands, Ullmann, Dunaway that year...
Also prefer her to Leachman in Last Picture Show.
