IDK why, but Buckley's nomination brought to mind Hawkins'. Both unexpected, precursor-free, semi-coattail nominations in that category.
Anyways, like both but prefer Buckley.
ETA: Didn't fact-check the absence of precursors, just working from memory.

Hawkins, and it's not close at all for me. I assume I'll be in the minority here, though.

Easily Hawkins. And she did get BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations when those still mattered

Wow. That's super hard for me to choose as they were both really brilliant performances. Guess I'd give Buckley the slight edge.

Hawkins but not because I liked her in Blue Jasmine. Her snub for Happy-Go-Lucky was so unforgiveable that any subsequent nomination is justified in my book.
Buckley's performance is slightly better but I didn't like it much either. She should've been nominated for Wild Rose instead.

hmmmm two supporting perfs I'm not crazy about. Hawkins' is probably more complete but IMO (and I know I'm in a minority here) she wasn't a great fit for Allen's dialogue. I think someone else could've done more with that role. And I've already talked about my reservations about Buckley's perf but I'd probably go with hers. Chalk it up to recency bias I guess

Buckley by far. Hawkins is awful in that film.
