1. Denzel Washington - Easily the best out of all the ones I've seen. 2. Troy Kotsur - Wonderful. 3. Kodi Smit-McPhee - Measured and precise. 4. Ciaran Hinds - Warm and artless. 5. Olivia Colman - Very strong. 6. Kristen Stewart - The ending threw me a bit, but otherwise very strong. 7. Aunjanue Ellis - The kitchen scene aced, solid otherwise. 8. Benedict Cumberbatch - Good. 9. Penelope Cruz - She was fine. 10. Judi Dench - Not bad by any means, but Balfe was robbed. 11. Jessica Chastain - A for effort, shame about the script. 12. Ariana Debose - Solid. 13. Will Smith - Solid. 14. J.K. Simmons - He was ok, but so did not warrant a nomination. 15. Jesse Plemons - Has no business being nominated for this performance. 16. Jessie Buckley - Love her but she has no business being nominated for this performance. 17. Nicole Kidman - She was playing Nicole Kidman in awful prosthetics and a wig, not Lucille Ball. 18. Kirsten Dunst - Love her but she has no business being nominated for this performance. 19. Javier Bardem - Terrible miscast. Haven't seen Garfield.

10. Jessie Buckley - Love her but she has no business being nominated for this performance. I know it seems really harsh of me to rank her last in her category (certainly not overall), but her scenes were such a drag... I couldn't stop imagining how much better the film would have been had the flashbacks been cut entirely. I would have much preferred a nomination for Dakota Johnson...

Dakota Johnson’s entire career is based on being the weakest link of every cast she’s a part of and this was no exception. That being said, she wasn’t terrible here.

BEST ACTRESS 1. Colman 2. Cruz 3. Kidman 4. Chastain 5. Stewart ^1 way out in front, 2 way out in second, 3 way out in third. Last 2 I could go either way on. BEST ACTOR 1. Cumberbatch 4. Smith 2. Washington 3. Garfield 5. Bardem ^The first two are good, maybe really good. Third is fine. Last two are just funny. I can't believe I'm disappointed about DiCaprio missing, especially for that film, but at least he was meant to be fucking ridiculous This has to be the worst Best Actor lineup I can think of. BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS 1. Dench 2. DeBose 3. Buckley 4. Ellis 5. Dunst ^Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooring. I like the first two, but to me they're the sort of level that should be also-rans in a category, not my faves. BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR 1. Smit-McPhee 2. Hinds 3. Simmons 4. Kotsur 5. Plemons ^That this is my fave of the 4 lineups is just sort of sad given certainly the bottom two have no business being anywhere near a top 5 of the year.

I can't believe you think Buckley carried that film... In my opinion, her scenes only worked to hamper Colman's (brilliant) performance... Diff'rent strokes, I guess.

A rewatch is in order, I didn't really love the film on first go. Colman was...fine, I guess? She was micast, which didn't help. I only cared for Leda's plight when Buckley portrayed her. It's a spare, unglamorous performance which pumped blood into an otherwise dramatically inert film IMO.

I'm gonna rank the ones I've seen (which a lot less than I thought) all together. Hoping to catch a few more soon.
1. Kristen Stewart 2. Benedict Cumberbatch 3. Olivia Colman 4. Kodi Smit-McPhee 5. Kirsten Dunst 6. Jessie Buckley 7. Nicole Kidman 8. Jesse Plemons 9. Javier Bardem 10. J.K. Simmons
Stewart through Buckley are exceptional. Kidman's solid. The other three shouldn't be there, though Plemons at least does very good work with the little he's given.

NS Tragedy of Macbeth, Eyes of Tammy Faye, Parallel Mothers, or Coda. Will probably get an Apple trial at some point and watch Macbeth and Coda. Good- Smith Ellis DeBose Buckley Good character work in somewhat hollow performances- Stewart Cumberbatch Bardem Simmons Okay- Hinds Dench Smit-Mcphee Plemons Dunst Colman Kidman Garfield The performances of the year (Haim, Affleck, Blanchett in Nightmare Alley) weren't nodded this time. Really nice supporting actress lineup this time, though, the strongest acting category this year.

10. Jessie Buckley - Love her but she has no business being nominated for this performance. I don't dislike the performance and I'm so glad Buckley has an Oscar nomination after being passed over for quality work two years in a row, buuuut I do agree she's my least favorite one here next to Dunst. The nature of the screenplay makes the character in the flashbacks really elusive. It always kind of feels like *half* a performance, if that makes sense. If Negga or Balfe had gotten that spot instead, today's nominations would be almost perfect to me.

Smith & Washington are basically even for me in opposite ways - similarly I could rank Stewart ahead of Colman also- very slight daylight between them - extremely close.........in opposite ways. I rank Washington lower barely because his role is established / built in - as is Stewart's somewhat too in that film at least......
All my #1's are number 1 by a lot tbh.....
BEST ACTRESS 1. Cruz 2. Chastain 3. Colman 4. Stewart 5. Kidman

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS 1. Dunst 2. DeBose 3. Ellis 4. Dench 5. Buckley
