Martin Scorsese is apparently a huge fan of Nightmare Alley. He recently wrote an op-ed in the LA Times, urging people to see the film.
Do you think Scorsese championing this movie will improve its chances?
AFI named it as one of the top 10 films of the year. Critics Choice nominated it for 8 awards, including best picture and best director. At the Guilds, it was nominated for WGA, SAG Supporting Actress, ADG, and the ASC. Obviously it didn't get a PGA, DGA, SAG Ensemble, and ACE nomination.

I don't think it will improve its Oscar chances but it is sad what happened to that movie - I see it very much like TToM or Last Duel - where much of it is terrific, part of it is not terrific - all 3 of those movies are pretty flawed too - but it works best when it comes down to the viewer breaking down the components.
It has - for me - at least a legit hour + of greatness in it (the last hour or so), 2 sorta great lead performances - Blanchett on merit should be in for BSA, Cooper starts shaky and gets better once Blanchett comes in -, fantastic production design, cinematography, score and as distinct a directorial approach as any US film this year (not counting PotD etc)
Now I still say this - like TToM - COULD overperform .....but the perception is that NA is something - people could just "skip" and what Scorsese did was provide a great service to that movie. It's easily in my top 10......and :
That script is great - really great on an adaptation level in the last half - and people are looking right past it - you could teach a class in how to adapt a book based on the 2021 version (which is better than the '47, ftw)
