Bond. James Bond.
Bond has some of the greatest film music of all time, most of them courtesy of their theme songs. I actually did this same poll almost nine years ago, but with a few more themes released since then, and also after watching the above awesome medley of the various main themes, I decided on resurrecting it. Also, I want to use it as a test for something more expansive down the line.
RULES: 1. For this poll, I’ll ask you to rank the 25 eligible theme songs. It’s not a requirement to rank them all, but the more you include, the higher the point tally. (Your number 25 will receive 2 points, all the way to your number one which will receive 50) - 2. The pool is slightly larger since last edition, with newly released songs, but also themes I deemed ineligible for not playing during the opening credits. This time, I impose no such restrictions. So long as they originated from the film, and have lyrics, they’re eligible. - 3. And yes, that means there is one restriction I’m still imposing. As the themes themselves must contain spoken lyrics, that means Monty Norman’s main theme, which originated from Dr. No, is still ineligible. - 4. When you’ve ranked all the songs, PM me your ranked ballot, and they’ll be counted toward the tally. You have until February 26 th, 11:59 PM PST, to send in your ballots. That gives you four weeks from the time this poll is posted to do so. I’m open to extensions, but I’m hoping to perform the presentation on February 27th.
EDIT: Extended to March 12th
The eligible songs are: ”All Time High” “Another Way to Die” “Diamonds Are Forever” “Die Another Day” “For Your Eyes Only” “From Russia With Love” “GoldenEye” “Goldfinger” “Licence to Kill” “Live and Let Die” “The Living Daylights” “The Man With the Golden Gun” “Moonraker” “No Time to Die” “Nobody Does it Better” “Skyfall” ”Surrender” “Thunderball” “Tomorrow Never Dies” “A View to a Kill” “We Have All the Time in the World” “The World is Not Enough” “Writing’s on the Wall” “You Know My Name” “You Only Live Twice“
EDIT: Although it’s not really the THEME song of its movie, you’re also free to include KD Lang’s “Surrender” from Tomorrow Never Dies
Ballots received: 1. Ryan_MYeah * 2. JangoB * 3. Tommen_Saperstein * 4. Martin_Stett * 5. The_Cake_of_Roth * 6. countjohn * 7. jimmalone * 8. therealcomicman117 * 9. wilcinema *

Where is Surrender? Is it eligible? Edit: To be clear, it played in the end credits for Tomorrow Never Dies, and its motif plays throughout the film - somebody apparently had second thoughts about a lesbian singing the theme song and pushed K.D. Lang to the end credits - this song is way better than Sheryl Crow's crapola, and I'd love to give it a high placement.

I knew I was forgetting something, but if EON pushed the Crow number as THE theme of the movie, that’s the one I’m counting. To be clear, however, I do like Lang’s a LOT more than Crow’s

To be clear, however, I do like Lang’s a LOT more than Crow’s So... that's a no? On second thought, even though it’s not exactly the THEME song, I’ll let it be included. Not sure how much of a dent it will make, but should you wish to include it, you can.

If there's one thing I learned from listening through all of these - usually with the credits sequence in front of me - it's that Daniel Kleinman is a master of his craft. This guy perfectly sets the tone for the movies he's working on, even if the songs sometimes don't live up to his vision.

There are quite a few other end credits themes you don't have listed, most of which are pretty forgettable (although I have a little soft spot to "If There Was a Man" from The Living Daylights) so it's maybe not such a big deal to leave them out.
But Surrender is great and a very close second to You Know My Name as the best song here. Allegedly studio execs flipped out at the last minute because she's a lesbian and it got relegated to the end credits.

The thing with Surrender is that it is used throughout the movie as a motif, constantly being referenced in the score. It really is the theme song of the film, in that it is used throughout.

Does the video in the opening post have all the eligible songs? All but “Surrender”, but it’s also snippets of each song. Honestly, putting together a YouTube playlist may be more ideal
