Just a reminder, my original power rankings were Belfast, TPOTD, Licorice Pizza, WSS, Dune, DLU, King Richard, CODA, TTB!, and Nightmare Alley in that order. Lets see if things changed at all, since the Guilds ushered out their PGA, DGA, WGA, and ACE nominations.
1. Belfast 2. The Power of the Dog 3. Dune 4. West Side Story 5. Licorice Pizza 6. King Richard 7. Don't Look Up 8. CODA 9. tick, tick...BOOM! 10. Being the Ricardos
Other contenders: Cyrano, Drive My Car, House of Gucci, and Nightmare Alley.
Belfast began as my #1 and still reminds today. Despite talks of it "losing steam," the film remains just as strong as ever. It is the only film to get nominated for the Globe, Critics Choice, SAG Ensemble, PGA, DGA, and the ACE. Next up is TPOTD. It won the Globe for Best Drama and scored PGA, DGA, and ACE nominations. The SAG Ensemble miss is its only handicap. Dune moves from #5 to my #3. Really impressive -- nailed PGA, DGA, and ACE nominations. WSS and Licorice Pizza are pretty even in my book. Both received the pivotal PGA and DGA nominations. LP got the ACE, but it was in the less competitive category of Comedy/Musical. I am giving WSS the slight edge because of the Globe wins.
Despite no DGA nomination, King Richard is in a really strong spot. Will Smith is the front-runner to win Best Actor. The film picked up PGA and ACE nominations. DLU, CODA and TTB! were all nominated at the PGA awards DLU and TTB! got the ACE Comedy/Musical nomination.
Being the Ricardos replaces Nightmare Alley for me, and I have two major reasons why: (1) Kidman winning the Globe. (2) Got a PGA nomination over NA. I am very tempted to put Drive My Car as the #10 spot. It won NY, LA, and NSFC.
