This should be my last one BEFORE the big Guilds are announced -- House of Gucci. I haven't seen this film yet, but I hear the film goes intentionally over-the-top into camp territory. Lady Gaga and Jared Leto are getting really strong praise. Gaga won the NY film critics trophy, and scored best actress nominations at the Globes, Critics Choice, and 2 SAG nominations. Leto was nominated at Critics Choice and SAG twice.

Picture - as long as it gets a PGA which I think it will - Actress - Costumes and Make-upI actually think HoG is positioned to blow up Kidman's chances specifcally at SAG which is ironic since SAG loves her........Gaga could easily win there and it has a good shot at winning ensemble.....and if that happens - even if Leto misses - which I think he does - it doesn't hurt her that much anyway because she's seen as "making that movie" singlehandedly.........of course if Kidman wins SAG...........then um....... disregard all that  Box-Office totals haven't come out yet globally but this is over 150 million I'm quite sure now ......it is the biggest stand alone adult drama in 2 years.....it has a lot of momentum pulling in its favor separate from precursors ......it's the movie of the moment still relative to the others and it has the most acting in it.........everybody acts their head off  |

HOG getting the PGA, WGA, and ACE would without doubt move the film to the front of the line and join the Belfast/TPOTD/WSS conversation.
When you say supporting actor, I am assuming you mean Leto and not Pacino, right? Or do you mean both?

Ridley had a banner year, and even though The Last Duel bombed at the box office, it's already enjoying a bit of a renaissance on home video. House of Gucci has always felt far stronger than people were giving it credit for as a potential industry hit, and I think there is a very real chance that Scott's status in the industry could see him get recognized for it. I don't think he's in the top five, but he seems like someone who will crop up at BAFTA and maybe even DGA. In short, I think people are too quick to discount this film and Scott himself. I don't have him as a top five contender, but I think that if Gucci surges at the right time, it could get him over the line. |
